Can someone give me some info on what the typical schedule looks like for a CAL 737 EWR new hire? Just trying to get an idea of the routes / overnights that can be expected...

Thanks.

I guess its a mix of everything 1-4 days trips, layovers all over the US, Mexico, Carib, and Latin America. I am about 65 percent on the aiplane and have been doing highly productive (24 hour +) 4 day trips, with about 15 days off a month. PBS is really a mixed bag.

PBS is definately a mixed bad. I am at 72% in IAH with 12 days off this month. I wanted weekends off, or at least one and I got zero weekends off. I guess the trick is to really study PBS and keep trying to figure out how to bid effectively. It shouldn't have to be this complicated but unfortunatelly it is. Hopefully, April will be a better month. Overall, CAL is a great place to be and wouldn't want to be anywhre else. With some improvements to PBS and A BETTER CONTRACT in 08 I am very optimisitic! Good luck to everyone!

i start class next week...im guessing its all 737 with a few 757..which would be better as a commuter (are the 4 day 737 trips commutable or should i bid 757 and take 12 days off with the hope of getting europe trips that end early on my last reserve day)..thanks

Take the 737 as your seniority will help you hold a line much quicker. You want to be off reserve as soon as possible so you control your life and not crew scheduling controlling it!

There is also something to be said about the 757 with its majority of late shows.....which does you no good being on reserve. I also think the 757 will go a bit more senior as dead head pay comes back this summer.

If you live in Houston don't bid the 757 EWR. The 737 will allow you to get back to IAH quicker, whether through a bid or base trade. I was hired in Oct 2005 and would be at 96% on the 757 IAH. Most guys who bid the 757 IAH live there so there is very little chance of getting a base trade from EWR to IAH.

You must have gotten my line!!! I was in the 70%'s for November and got 4 days off over Thanksgiving. That was a mistake in my favor. I haven't gotten a good line since, denial mode 4 ever month.

737 is not commutable in EWR unless you are in the 40% range. I don't think it's the company's fault, just the type of trips. 757 in EWR is extremely commutable, a bit longer reserve though. 737 IAH, more commutable, about the same reserve as EWR +-1 month. 757 IAH, there are no openings right now, and reserve is more like 1 to 1 1/2 year.

Good luck.
