Tooslow and I are arguing over whether or not America West used to fly the L1011's and 767. I remember as a kid flying into PHX and seeing them in the late 80's and possibly early 90's.
I found the America West 747 pics on Airliners.net along side the old Southwest 727 from PE back in the day but can't seem to find the L1011 and 767 and I'm about 99.9% sure they used to fly them. Anyone know of any pictures online so I can prove a point.

Can't help you with the AWE aircraft, but I remember working those SWA 72s. They leased three of them I think? Geeeze, those guys could do some awesome slam-dunks in those things....... :D :D

America West never flew 767's or L-1011's. At one time, they had 747's, and Dash-8's, in addition to the current fleet of 737's, 757's and A319/320. But that is it...

America West Airlines began after US airline deregulation in 1981. First flights began in 1983 from Phoenix airport using Boeing 737-200 jets on scheduled services out of Arizona. As the network grew a second hub at Las Vegas and many more 737 jets were purchased.

America West extended it's route network from the western United States to all points on the continent and then on to Canada and Hawaii using Boeing 747s. A mini-hub had been set up at Port Colombus in Ohio.

A320's introduced in 96. No L-10's or 76's

I thought you had to be 21 to land at PHX?

A320's were introduced in 1990 - I remember this because Airbus gave us $165 million in concessions to take the aircraft. Rumor had it later that if we had not taken those aircraft and gotten the concessions, we would have gone bankrupt in September 1990 instead of June 27, 1991. I will never forget that bankruptcy day because I found out about it on the 10 pm news right after my wedding shower!!

Correct, error on my part. I believe it was in the year of 96" when the new livery of 'Teamwork', 'Phoenix Suns', and the 'Arizona' was introduced.

ps >Dash's are "Express"

I could have sworn I saw those back in the day but I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**! I swear I saw them multiple times on trips into PHX.

That sounds about right 350. I remember those got introduced just as we were coming out of bankruptcy.

Ever think you would see the day where Mesa would be operating 37's? Gotta love the industry.

350 -

You said that the Dash's are Express. They are now, however, back in the late 1980's (I think it was 1987 when we got them) we (AWA) had the Dash 8's and used to run them to FLG and YUM.

I will never forget when we used to run the DH-8's out of gate 30 and 32 in Terminal 3 in PHX. The reason why this was so funny, was at the same time we had the Careliner bus' that ran every 30 minutes to Scottsdale and Mesa. Gate 30 was always the most awful gate to work at because there were about 2-3 Dash-8's on the ground, in addition to the buses! :D Surprising that no one ever got killed out there on the ramp!

Thanks for the comment on my little girl. She is a real peach and is happy like she looks in the picture all the time. She has such a wonderful little personality and I am very blessed to have her. :)

Rumor has it that those 737's are going to be operated by Ed Beauvais, former founder of AWA, using Mesa's ticket up in PIT for his "Project Roam" because it would take him 18 months to get his own ticket. (As old as he is now, he would probably never see the first one fly) Anyone else hear that rumor?

I am pretty sure they were "property" of someone else, could be mistaken though since I was not in the loop then.. Even on the company history site there is no mention of the sort on the actual ownership of them but you may be correct.

I do not think Mesa has anything to do with Project Roam. I spoke to the PIT f.o rep last week and he said that the 12-14 will be on Freedom's ticket or Midway's. Rumor is 3 to start in July then the rest to follow soon there afterwards. I guess 3 old 300's are coming from UAL and 1 from CAL..They gotta stay far east not to bust scope or there will be a major problem. Without even having a 73 training program in place I would be a tad surprised how all this could get done so quickly and get them airborne by July.
