It looks like I may be going to simuflite for a type in the citation sometime this month if it all goes through. Im a 900 hour pilot but the insurance company wants two typed pilots. Its a 91 operation and I already have over 100 hours in the 550. I have a citation systems dvd ive been watching along with two flight safety manuals but I was wondering if you corporate guys could give me some tips for a type rating because I feel this is going to be a challange for me because its my first type. Thanks

No worries.

I see you have been flying a 172? C550 = no problem. ;-)

You have all the information you need to succeed. Study, focus and no partying during training. You will do fine.

Now, about that lav... and the coffee pot operation.....

Hahaha.

Good luck.

Since the pass rate is about 98% at the big schools you shouldn't have any problems. Now some useful info.

Be up to speed on flying instruments.
The sim is going to be really sensitive to you, accept it.
When flying the approaches, slow it down way before you get there, ie on the downwind legs, etc. It will make your job a lot easier.
Use your copilot, make him do the work.
Know what the power settings are and set them, they should be close enough all of the time, and then fine tune after everything else is going your way.
Use the autopilot, don't be a hero and try to hand fly it unless they make you hand fly. This is a check ride.
If you think you have busted a minimums or something else is going wrong, don't just sit there and fly the approach, execute the missed. They want to see some judgement.
If you have to do a SE missed approach, be prepared to lead with rudder pressure and don't jam the throttle in, slow and easy.
Do really well on the orals, I think they tend to be more tolerant during the actual checkride if you know your stuff.
Relax.
Relax.
Relax.

Good luck.

Yeah know your profiles!!!! thats it. After your initial descent from 10,000ft (where you do your maneuvers) keep your power at about 63% AND DONT TOUCH IT TILL 50ft when you go to flt idle. Seriously. It'll give you flap speed for appch flaps, then gear speed, then VRef +10ish all the way down. That was our secret number at SimCom idk about the Simuflite sim.

Use your other pilot, make callouts, and if all goes right, you really dont do much but fly. I had 1000TT too when I went to training a month or two ago, and I spent every afternoon at the hotel happy hour, 1/2 the nights goin to Pleasure Island, the other nights chasin tail, and I did fine so I wouldnt worry too much.

For the oral, STUDY THE ANNUNCIATOR PANEL. If you know why every light goes on, and what makes it go on, you'll be an all star. Oh and keep your V1 cut very structured, stay calm, just fly the plane and tell ur other pilot to address the situation after you level off. Climb at V2, level off at 400ft, or if a DP requires higher then that alt, accelerate to Venr (approx 150-157 whichever the math works out to before takeoff), and then ENGAGE YAW DAMPER, ALT SEL, HDG, IAS, then AP!! You're done. Let the AP climb you out at "veener", and let it do all the work. you wont bust your heading/alt/speed if you do it that way. Sorry for talkin too much...

I agree with FlymeSWA, KNOW THE ANNUNCIATOR PANEL! What is the annunciator telling you? What have you lost? Is there anything you as a pilot in the cockpit can do to rectify the situation?

Also KNOW YOUR MEMORY ITEMS! Engine Fire, Battery O'temp, Elevator trim runaway.....

KNOW AIRCRAFT LIMITATIONS!!

If you know the above items, then the oral is cake!

You already know what is expected of you in the flight portion.

btw the 63% thing isnt even close in the real plane, at least for ours.

Get the flight manual, make it your bible. Study, study, and study again. It is a mountain, climb a little each day. Get to know the entire document step by step. Make notes and cheat sheets summarizing all the important stuff.

After the test is done, continue to refer to it regularily, pull a chapter each month and study it all again. It is your friend.

This has really helped me.

use the Flight Director for all Takeoffs. Hit GO AROUND ( that will give you about 10 degrees pitch up), then HEADING and ALT SEL. This will help alot for engine failures above V1. Just tuck the airplane into the V bars and fly it out. It will keep you on your heading and help with pitch control.
All these other advise these guys gave you is "right on".

You should have no problem. Its a fairly docile airplane plus you've been flying it already and have time in type.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

The only problem would be is if he's going for SIC initial or SIC Type, then he wont have the FD, or Yoke trim for that matter. At least at SimCom it was this way.

insurance wants two type rated pilots. the captian doesnt have any time in the 550 so i feel like ill be helping him out haha.

I got another question, Since i only have 900 hours and i am gettign a type rating i dont meet 135 mins so what are my options with finding work on the side? is it hard todo?i know ill have to start networking
