I need help trying to find out who Buys Ballots is and what is his law. I think is related to aerodynamics but I am not 100% sure.

Thank you.

Christoph Heinrich Diedrich Buys Ballot was a dutch meteorologist. Professionally he wanted to organize and standardize meteological findings.

In 1857 he formulated Buys Ballot’s law. His law said, in the Northern Hemisphere, if you standwith your back to the wind, the area of low pressure is to your left. In the Southern Hemisphere it will be to your right. The explanation lies in the deflection, caused by the earth’s rotation, in the movement of air from areas of high pressure to areas of lower pressure. But he was not the first to come up with this concept. A related law was introduced earlier by the U.S. meteorologist William Ferrel.

PS, If I did not know who he was, I think I would have thought it was some kind of joke....Buys Ballot....Law???
