So, my brother-in-law works as a security expert for a company in India, he's been with them since day one (10 years ago) and they asked him to look into a cargo plane they need to buy.

It will be their first aircraft of any kind, and it will be used to take over their own cargo ops....they've been using cargo companies to transport all their things for the past 8 years. Its been growing each year.

So of course he has asked me to help him find the right plane for the mission:

They need a cargo plane that can carry 7 tons of cargo 900nm. They need one plane now and would like to try to get it for $2 million or less. Then they will add another plane so they can always have an aircraft at both bases.

We're going to get a broker on the job this week sometime but I thought I'd ask you cargo pilots for opinions?

Thanks.

ATR72 will do it.

Fokker 50 cargo conversion will do it.

The Convair 580 will do it.

Not sure about the price on them.

I'd avoid any older piston planes, but the DC-6 and DC-7 will both do it.

PM me for additional consultation fees...

Check country - doesn't India have federal laws on age-of-aircraft that are pretty strict? I thought they wouldn't allow aircraft older than late-80s manufacture?

What about a CRJ or would the door be too small. They are going pretty cheap abiet pretty beat up in the 2mil price range.

you can buy an IL76 with only a few bullet holes for 500k, so buy 2 and save a million.

I was just curious how the parts and support were since its Russian built......

Also, how much more per hour would that plane cost to run then a Convair 580 or Fokker 50.......I'm guessing ALLOT MORE..........

Which model......

CRJ100PF LR Range....15,200 lb max payload, 1130nm

Well you said you needed 14,000 and 900nm. The nice thing about a CRJ is that there is very good parts support. You would also have a market for resale that is much larger than the other planes mentioned. Lots of places that provide training at reasonable prices also may be a factor for you.

I second the IL-76. Plenty of experienced IL-76 pilots in India. The IAF flies the IL-76 and parts should be around.

Tell him to talk to bluedart they have 2 x 737-200 that appear to be in storage one has arrived at vebs and they other sits at vecc... and yes can't import a aircraft older than 15yrs old into india.

Should be some cargo-door DC9-30's available. They would exceed your payload/range requirement but the fuselage will not accept a standard container.

I still say get the IL76, you will not need to buy any k-loaders..etc to load and unload the freight. Not to mention you could land it on a dirt road if need be. Also I believe they are still making new IL76s.
