CBSNews.com:Libertarian could cost Bush the election

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Libertarian presidential candidate who will be nominated in Atlanta on Sunday may have a bigger impact on the race than Ralph Nader and "could cost Mr. Bush his job in 2004," according to an analysis by David Paul Kuhn, chief political writer for CBSNews.com.

The May 21 article, headlined "Bush’s Third-Party Threat," says many conservatives are so upset with Republican spending increases that they may abandon Bush in November. If that happens, the Libertarian nominee "may do for Democrats in 2004 what Nader did for Republicans in 2000" and cost Bush the election, Kuhn says.

I thought you were talking about real bush pilots, the kind that land on sandbars, blowouts, gravel bars, glaciers, and turn off at all first intersections at Merrill, and ANC. I did fly Bush 4 years ago, does that count?

I got suckered too.

I guess old Mr. Wright didn't get the PM concerning the new "BS" forum.

That's ok. I didn't read anything about a moratorium on hijacking threads...

...so what's this "blowout" thing?

I know about sandbars and first intersections and stuff like that but I ain't never run across no blowout--at least none I've known of.

How about this for a Bush Pilot topic: Do they even exist anymore?

When people ask me what it was like to be a bush pilot I always tell them, Well, I'm a pilot and I flew in the bush but I never considered myself a bush pilot.

Those guys are a separate breed and may have gone the way of cowboys and pirates.

Sure there are modern day versions but I never even approached the daring-doo of Noel Wien or Bob Reeve.

Legends. I'm just a pudknocker--and damm lucky to be alive.

When you fly on the Peninsula you will find large areas of open volcanic dirt that make great little strips. We called them blowouts as they come from the high winds coming from the east getting up to 130 MPH in between the hills, the tundra has been blown away so we call them blowouts. Lots of them around Cinder River.

Opps I think we are hijacking this thread by talking about aviation. How was Rome, great place isn't it. I spent most of December there flying back and fourth to Kuwait.

Blowouts and Rome.

You know, this is what I love about aviation. Only because of aviation can we have a simultaneous discussion about blowouts and Rome.

Blowouts: Interesting. I've done very little off airport stuff, you know, unless you count landing on taxiways and stuff like that...

I bet you've landed in Aniakchak crater haven't you? That's something I'd love to check out.

Rome: Wow. Honestly mixed feelings. First of all, the history is mind boggling. The architecture is stunning. At literally every turn around the most insignificant corner you run into the most magnificent piazza or fontana.

And then there's the people. A few Americans, but Canadian, French, German, British, Japanese, Korean, Russian are all represented. It reminded me of Disneyland especially with the tourists having thier picture taken with Roman Gladiators at the Colosseum.

When I got on the bus to the airport to come home I had mixed feelings. On one hand I was glad to be leaving Rome. On the other I hated to leave Italy.

I better stop here 'cause I could write all night.

Well today is my 26th wedding aniversary. We got up at 0530 and went to the beach and watched the sun rise. Found a nice sand dollar. Then we went to a nice breakfast at a local outside cafe. It is funny, during the winter we would be lucky to have found a spot, this morning there were only 3 other people there. Rome is neat, the Collusium was awesome. There is one place if you put your hand on it you can feel the moanings and fear of what happened there. I thought it was just me so I had serveral other people try it--same experience. I never landed in the crater but I did get to fly around inside of it one day, pretty neat.

Happy Anniversary

She must be pretty special to have put up with your flying all these years. Lucky guy. Congratulations!

I was just up north flying turns out of Elmendorf a month ago. I started to try and talk her into moving back up to Alaska. She said that what she said 20 years ago still stands. So there is a price to pay, but she is worth it. Enjoy AK while you can.;)
