It's very easy to see in my eyes. The enemy was the USSR. After 1980, it was Iran second. Anyone whipping on them was OK at the time. you remember when the 55 hostages were taken in Tehran in 1979? born yet?

Just asking questions, thats all. What has changed in regards to Saddam? Are you saying that during the Iran/Iraq war Saddam was a better person? He allowed elections? He didnt kill people because he thought they may have said something bad about him? He wasnt killing his own family back then? Why do we need to support either side when they are both lousy. Why not just let them all kill each other?
I am not saying that he is worthy of living right now, but I frimly beleive that if we go to war with Iraq, we will be starting WW3 and it will last for a long time and cause a lot of destruction.

Who knows, who cares... like I said he was whipping on the Iranians, therefore worthy of support in the leadership's eyes in the '80's.

fine by me! I've always said we need to get our folks home and take care of issues here. We need to abandon the UN too.

But the whole card gets more complicated when they come here and kill US citizens. Not to mention the WMD's that are becoming a real threat to the world. It makes it harder to just say stick to our own business when these countries start playing with "fire". you just watch... one of these days, Mexico may well be on the same list as Syria, Packistan, Algeria, etc... Not immediately dangerous, but a threat. Then we're going to have problems right next door, in addition to all the ba$tards coming in through immigration routes and trying to kill us.

If you think that the West against the Muslum extremists is WWIII, then it's already started. It began with the bombing of our Marine barracks in Lebanon, the USS Cole, US embassy in Nigeria (?), first WTC bombing and got into full swing in the fall of 2001 with the last attack on the US in NY, Penn, & DC.
