Another one of those incredibly stupid interview questions, but yea, I'd definetly go with the response Falcon Capt. gave.
 
Another option, if its aircraft specific....the CRJ (I think) has two nav lights per side. So if one was burnt out you could still go (provided the MEL and all that stuff said it was ok).
 
Tell the mechanic to change it...

5 min fix...otherwise Christmas is canceled.
 
Defer the light per the MEL and amend the release. Then slap the FO for finding the burned out light and telling you when the CVR is on.

If it aint going to kill me, I don't want to know about it!! At least that's the attitude of my former employer.
