How much does your airline charge you for buddy passes? Is there a limit on how many you buy or who may use them? Please name your airline if it isn't obvious.

Thanks,

Quillpig

AMR employees get 24 a year (you and your family don't count towards the limit). We're allowed to give them to anyone.

They're a good deal for domestic travel, but for international, some of the discounted fares the airlines have nowdays come pretty close, and you get a confirmed seat!

ASA

8 Buddy Passes per year (r/t), you can give them to anyone you want, cost depends on length of flight. Don't know the formula, but Atlanta to Southern New England runs in the $40-$50 range each way.

EagleRJ,

How much do you pay for them?

QP
The charges are based on both class and mileage. They range from about $20 for a short hop in Coach to more than $300 for going to Asia in First Class.
Our own travel charges (employee and family) are less- they supposedly cover only the airline's taxes and fees on you, and your food and liquor. The days of free buddy passes are long gone.

When we ride the jumpseat, either on AMR flights or another carrier, it is FREE!

Which is a good thing, because I couldn't bear paying money for two hours on that medieval torture device!

How about costs for jumpseating, especially for commuters?
The j/s is offered as a "courtesy" and at no charge for those who are qualified and have the appropriate, required, and expected credentials. Some carriers limit the number of jumpseaters per plane to the actual number of jumpseats that are in the cockpit others will allow unlimited jumpseaters.. This will vary from airline to airline. Some like ATA will also take all 135 guys.

Not entirely true.... AA and Eagle employees have to pay for the jumpseat when flying on AA and AE if the cabin has an empty seat available and if they have less than five years of service with the company. Also, I believe AirTran charges $25 for all jumpseaters who work at other airlines, except the first jumpseater.

Well, actually we at Eagle aren't allowed to jumpseat on our own airine! BS, I know. We have to non-rev, and if the cabin is full, we get the cockpit jumpseat, and it is free- even with less than five years seniority.
You cannot ride on the actual cockpit jumpseat if there are open seats in the cabin- per new security regulations.
