Was listening to BBC raidio on NPR this morning. When interviewed at the scene, the captain kept saying "There must be some mistake. It must have been something mechanical. This doesn't happen to British pilots"!

It's not just brit thing. (I'm not a brit, btw,)

There was a Mesa ERJ made a very hard landing in several years ago. Bad enough to put a 10' crack in its fuselage. When they pull the tape, the captain's remark was "Go around is not an option."
 
I jump seated home a couple of nights ago and the fo claimed that recent facts were leading to not enough fuel.... I should have asked him the source.
