I have a very good friend flying down in Brazil (TAM Captain) and also a cousin (TAM F/O). Both called me yesterday saying that they saw an article posted at their Flight Ops board stating that a United Airlines top official in Brazil said that they are looking to hire 100 Brazilian/South American pilots to be based in São Paulo to fly international trips. Sort of the same deal with Flight Attendants at some airlines.
The article is from the "O Estado de São Paulo", the largest and most credible newspaper in Brazil.
I told them that that can't be true and I totally despise the idea.
United and UAL Alpa guys/gals, please inquire and tell me this is not true. All we need now is the outsourcing of our jobs to begin.

Peace!

AA has had this deal for decades with the F/As. The South American based F/As are, per INS regulations, only permitted to fly flights from their city to that flight's first U.S. destination. Say, Belize to Miami. Once in MIA, all they can do is turn around and go back, they can not work a flight from MIA to DFW or anywhere else in the U.S.

Not that I agree with this, as I'd much rather see U.S. based AA F/As on the APFA senority list working those flights, but at least they can't fly domestic legs.

The only thing I have to say about your comment is, the latin girls are HOT, they always look good in uniform, and are very professional!

We are going to send 100 UAL pilots down to GRU and live the good life....:} My friend from TAM can confrim this. Actually I wish we would hire some of the TAM F/A's as well!

I have my bid in as we speak.

When does the domicile open? You're on the 76, right?
As far as bidding it, what do I need to put on my bidreq sheet? GRU 767 F/O?

I keep putting it in Unimatic with no luck! If UAL were smart they would open a TDY base in GRU. I would probably never come back to the USA.

Heck--I think we should recruit the TAM girls..or ANY of the South American Chica's!

Oi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd trade in my winning lottery ticket for:

1. Orlando 767 Base with GRU/GIG/EZE flying only
2. a TDY GRU/GIG base

I did see that we will be flying IAD-GIG nonstops in October.

The rumor is still going on here. I keep telling people that it is highly unlikely but they won´t listen. Anyways I have never seen the article they are talking about. It would be nice to have a GRU or GIG base!!!!!!!!!!

Oh by the way, we are NOT living the dream. Just take a look at hour schedules, days off, the way hour company treats us etc...... Most would leave in a hurry.

We have all that in the U.S., too. (But with nasty FA's! ) TC

Apparently, those of you who would love to base in Brazil learned nothing from the mid-air incident last year. We should be boycotting the Brazilian aviation system until the charges against those two pilots are dropped and legislation is passed outlawing criminal prosecution of flight crew involved in accidents. THEN, let the debauchery resume....

I agree. Flying down here is dangerous. We would be better off not having controllers at all. I am hoping ICAO will lower Brazil´s rating this year, then maybe some changes will happen.......

We should be hiring all the Brazilian GAROTAS we can find.

Yes..its dangersous flying down in "Sud America" but sometimes ya gots ta take risks if ya want the rewards....
