Phil Boyer Quits AOPA
Joins Daley Re-Election Campaign
By ANN Reporter Juan Jimenez
In a stunning change of events that has floored virtually every general aviation pilot alive, and has all the other ones flipping over in their graves, Phil Boyer, the wildly popular President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), has announced his resignation from the organization.
The reason? He has accepted an offer to join Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's re-election campaign. As campaign manager, no less.
Boyer will helm the Daley Re-Election Korps (D.A.R.K.), and revealed his intentions in a surprise news conference this morning at his Fredericksburg office.
"I know many of you will be surprised by this decision," a somewhat nervous-looking Boyer whispered to the stone-cold silent staff and reporters that had hastily assembled in his office at the crack of dawn. "However, I trust you will understand that this decision was not taken lightly," he added. "Mayor Daley has tried for months to get on my good side, and when one of his aides showed up and made me an offer I couldn't refuse... Well, it was an offer I could not refuse."
A Daley staffer, standing close to Boyer, nodded his agreement and was heard whispering to Boyer to keep his hands in plain sight until he could be moved to Daley's corporate aircraft and whisked away to Chi-Town.
Boyer explained that he will be taking over the position of campaign manager, formerly held by Daley's long time friend and confidant Billy Bob Simpson. Simpson recently announced his resignation from the campaign after allegations surfaced that he was taking kickbacks from a construction company that had been awarded the contract to maintain the anti-terrorist trenches on what used to be the runway at Meigs Field.
Boyer will be relocated to Chicago, where he has purchased a studio apartment in the new Meigs Lakefront Condo, and will assume the position shortly.
