Does he think G/A pilots buy tax free 100LL?

Where does he think his pilots come from - largely G/A and instructor ranks?

What would he think if all AOPA and EAA members suddenly pledged to only "Fly United" or "Fly the Best Care in the Air"!!!

Didn't the taxpayers (including G/A pilots) end up bailing out the airlines?

Hi!

Almost all forms of transportation are heavily, heavily subsidized by governments.

This includes:
Airlines
Gen Aviation
Automobiles
Trucks
Trains
Urban Mass Transit
H2O Shipping

People say to stop subsidizing Amtrack, while they drive their cars using gasoline they did not pay for at the pump (US gasoline actually costs between $5-$15, depending on the accounting methods used), on roads and bridges that they have not paid for (our gasoline taxes do NOT cover the cost of roadways, which is why they are deteriorating, especially our bridges).

Every aircraft sold to an airline is subsidized by approximately 50% (if it costs AirTran $20 mill to buy a 737, one government or another covers the other $20 mill-it actually costs $40 mill, but the airline only pays 1/2).

We all receive a lot from governement, often too much. Lots of the cost of gasoline is being "paid" for by running a deficit, to be paid by others, in our future, unknown to us, as we burn their tax money up in our engines.

AOPA already put out a responce..

AIRLINE MAGAZINE TAKES SHOTS AT GA
If you happened to travel on Northwest Airlines recently you may have been upset by
a little turbulence, but not the kind caused by meteorological forces. A column in
the airline's magazine, written by Northwest CEO Richard Anderson, took some jabs at
general aviation and how the air traffic control system is funded. "As the system
works today, you, the commercial airline passenger, are subsidizing private aircraft
ownership. This is not right," he wrote. But he's not right. As a general aviation
pilot, you know very well that flying and using the system isn't free. You pay a
wide range of fees from fuel taxes to landing fees. And you also know that you don't
enjoy many of the services the airlines do. AOPA President Phil Boyer wants to
arrange a meeting with Anderson to straighten out misconceptions caused by the
column (as well as discuss issues regarding reliever airports in the Minneapolis/St.
Paul area). We will keep you posted.

Don't fly Northwest, and now noone at my company can without my written permission.
