Bose X = Expensive POS

I bought the Bose X headsets and had problems with the mic plug in the Citation X. It seems that Bose decided to take it upon themselves to reinvent the mic plug and when plugged into the aircraft it reseats a bushing in the jack causing the plug to not make contact with the jack. What a pain...and an annoyance to have a useless $1000 pair of headsets. I ended up selling them to some dude on ebay and went out and bought the QC2 with the Uflymike. The quality of ANR is nowhere near what it was with the X, but works well and serves a double purpose so that I can use them as regular headsets to listen to my Ipod on my inevitable airline to and from work.

Bose didn't reinvent the plug. Cessna reinvented the jack.

How about brining some professionalism back to the industry and not listening to your music while at the controls...thanks

How about NO!! Professionalism like this started back when the ADF was installed and AM stations were the thing to listen to. Im gonna keep that tradition going, and with pride!!! Your welcome.

Mine works. Never had any aircraft interface problems, but I've also never flown the Citation X. You'd think since they're both named 'X' there'd be some synergy. I guess not.

One thing I'm amazed at is the durability of the Bose. I've used it since I was an instructor, don't treat it particularly well and have never had a problem. I replace the mic muff and ear pads from time to time and use rechargeable batteries. Well worth the price if you are going to fly loud airplanes for a living.

Bose works great in the E-145

plus that no interest financing means you don't have to cough up the grand all at once, but 12 nice little $85 chunks each month... the rest will set you back almost a months pay up front

great headset

I doubt this is true, but a friend of mine said that anybody with a CFI license can get the Bose X headset for $900. Anybody know if this is true? I did not see anything on their website.

You can use a computer and a paypal account and get it on Ebay for $700.........:erm:

A 4 dollar adapter plug from radioshack could have solved your problem.

But I agree that bose is overrated. After 200 hours I noticed hairline cracks on the arms that connect to the earpieces. Not causing any failure of the unit, but still...plastic junk.

I got those cracks after the first 1500 hrs in mine. Drove the short 25 min from BOS to the Bose place in framingham ma, i think it's 145 pennsylavina ave, framingham. Went in to the reception desk. In 10 minutes a Tech came out took my headset, asked me what was wrong. 30 minutes later, i had a new left ear cup, new ear seals, mike cover, headband, Earcup yokes, interior screens and a new cord/controll unit because mine was a little dammaged ( bent plug, mostlikely my fault). Total cost? 1.5 hours of my time.

At 3300hrs with the headset... went back for same problems.

Same result. Warranty with the Bose is A+. Thats why i justify the price now... i have for the most part, recieved a brand new headset 2x from them, and the last time i went in, they extended my warranty for 2 yrs for filling out a survey.

I would doubt the Qc2 gets that level of support.

I had the same issue with the yokes, had the head set for 6 years, called and queried. Bose paid shipping both ways, and instead sent me a "BRAND NEW" headset to make sure I was satisfied. No more 9V batteries, 2AAs for me, now thats customer service. Try to get that with the noflymiguel. 6 years and a NEW product!
PBR

I'm another of those who have bought both the Bose X and the QC2/U-fly-mike combo and can attest that although the u-fly-mike setup is superb and functions well, the noise attenuation (both the active and the passive portions- there being no passive at all in the QC2) are *much* worse in the QC2 compared to the Bose X. The QC2/UFM might be fine for many in a jet, but when I tried switching to it I started missing calls from ATC again and switched back to the bulletproof Bose X setup. Less noise= less fatigue. I carry the QC2 on the road anyway for airlining in the back, airport sits and overnights.

Bose customer service is amazing-- I mispacked my Bose X much too tightly in my flight bag (I now carry it separately) and cracked the plastic earcup frames and they fixed it within 5 days, fedexed it back to me, and replaced all the non-broken life limited parts like the earcups and headtop pad, no questions asked. That sort of service makes for repeat customers. If Lightspeed follows suit they will build a great customer base too, and it's nice that there now seem to be two great headsets out there.

Re. universal ipod adapters, there is a device called the MUSE which works great, though you have to remove the 9V battery when not in use to prevent slow battery drain. Sporty's sells a cheaper adapter advertised as a cell phone/ipod adapter.

In cruise flight on long legs, music played soft enough to not block ATC is a safety benefit by keeping one awake. ADF country stations and local talk radio just doesn't cut it.
