Has anyone been able to obtain one of these new for less than $995? Any CFI/airline discounts? (I called w/o any luck)

A used one on Ebay is probably your best bet. I used to work in a retail pilot shop way back when, and Bose basically does not allow their retailers to discount their product at all. In addition, the profit margin for them is so small that no one can really afford to discount them. It was actually the least profitable headset that we sold at the time. Its possible things have changed over the last several years since I worked there, but it doesn't seem like it from what I keep hearing.

American Airlines and American Eagle employees get a discount.

The only way to get the discount is through the 800 number. You can't get the discount through the stores.

I think it's 20%. The kicker is, you can only buy 1 product per calendar year using the discount.

I just bought a pair of the freespace 51 outdoor speakers (three weeks ago) and called up last night to order another pair. That's when I found out about the once per year deal.

Now, what you can do, is give your buddy that works at AMR the cash, then have him/her buy the headests for you. Pick a buddy who is not inclined to ever buy anything from Bose, so you won't cause them to miss out on enjoying the discount down the road.

Got mine in a pawn shop for $225, left ear piece didn't work though. Sent it in to BOSE and they replaced everything for free, and sent it back within two weeks. Good luck in your search. I highly recommend it, even if you have to buy new.

lightspeed 20g for me, work great untill i saw a picture of me wearing them. them f'n things are huuuuuuuuuuuuge

The telex 580 does not need batteries and I got mine for 475.

The Telex 850 doesnt offer any passive protection. You're still exposed to damaging high frequency noise (wind, air conditioning etc.)

The Bose X is simply the finest aviation headset on the market. I'll never wear anything else again.

I just had to hane mine repaired. During the repair, I used my old Telex. There was no comparison. The Mic noise was unbearable. I had to keep mu hotmic off for most of the flight. It was a happy when I got the Bose back. Its worth every penny.
