Where did you hear it? Obviously out east, but where specifically? I live in Chicago, but i'm interseted...

I live in Central Florida, about 30minutes south of KSC (or 10 in an airplane) It was very loud, but cool to hear.

Well I was at the Glider port that day and everyone went outside and looked up and pointed. Well I started looking up couldn't see anything. So next I hear is "BOOM", cool.

There are two booms because one "cone" is generated at the nose of the airplane, and one cone generated at the tail of the airplane. Because the different airflow over the parts of the craft the nose and the tail will not go supersonic at the exact same time. (Sometimes because of speed and altitude these two booms will sound as one) There is only one heard on the way back down because the entire airplane will go supersonic at realtively the same time. The one supersonic boom created by the nose at the initial transition to supersonic speeds.
