Boeing Sees $2.8 Trillion Market for New Planes
AP
NEW YORK (June 13) - Plane maker Boeing Co. on Wednesday forecast a $2.8 trillion market for new commercial planes over the next 20 years.
The Chicago-based company said it expects 5 percent yearly increases in passenger traffic and 6.1 percent annual growth in air cargo traffic will lead to 28,600 new passenger and freighter planes to be delivered over the next 20 years.
The company sees the largest market being Asia, making up 36 percent of the total $2.8 trillion (euro2.1 trillion), compared with 26 percent in North America. Boeing also said most of the demand will be for airplanes with 90 to 400 seats.
Boeing and rival Airbus have been competing for orders in the industry, which has been surging recently amid strong global growth.
Boeing shares rose $1.50 to $97.99 in morning trading.
