Staying Alive: Boeing retains 717
Boeing announced Dec. 13 it will continue production of the B-717, smallest in the company's stable. Boeing said production will go forward, but at a lower production rate and revised delivery schedule.

Outstanding orders for the B-717 include 23 for AirTran Airways with options for 47 and Midwest Express Airlines with orders for 20.
More info is on the boeing.com site

Now we'll have to see who picks up the TWA birds...

That is excellent new. We're having great luck with ours - good dispatch reliability and great passenger satisfaction. I'm glad to see Long Beach able to keep working too.

The Midex orders for 20 are not firm orders. They are still a wet dream at this point, and are not included in Boeing's tally of "firm orders". At this point, Midex only has a "memorandum of understanding" to purchase 20 airplanes, with options for 30 more. Negotiations are still on-going.

Although Midex has a better chance of getting the airplanes now with this announcement.
