Any other airline pilots out there who are or have been on the Body for Life program?

It seems to be a challenge to do this while working, although so far i've mangaged to stick with it.

Any tips for eating on the road, exercise, etc?

Body 4 life

It works!

I did it two years ago and went from 197 lb.to 170lb in just two months. I lost 8 lbs. the first week alone and then it tappered off to 5 lbs the 2nd week and the 3 lbs the third week and so on.

Working out on the road is difficult, but lucky for me the airline I flew for at the time put us up in hotels that had small gyms. Not all hotels had them, but I worked out when ever I got the chance.

As far as eating goes, I would fix my food for the entire day and if I knew I was going to have a lay-over I would take enough food to last me two days. If you eat out at restaurants you can order salads, steak & potatoes, etc. and there are subways everywhere. I would order a foot long and eat half and the rest about two hours later.

You really have to want to lose the weight and stay focused for the program to work.

Good luck!

Great program

I found it to be a great program. While I don't stick to it to the letter these days, it's the foundation of my diet and excercise regime and I'm perfectly content. Truth be told, I eat a heck of a lot more now than I ever did thanks to making informed food decisions and regular excercise. Ask an Atkins cult freak a year into it how well they've stuck to the plan and what their bloodwork says.

IT WORKS
I use to say i will never weigh as much as my dad. he was 210 at the time i was 160.
My dad started on the progam a yr or 2 ago. My dad is now 65yrs old 165lbs in the best shape of his life. I'm 36yrs old 195lbs and not in the best of shape. Its time for me to start it.

Just becarefull of the various supplement or shakes out there, some of the things in them are not good, . do the research on them.

PS we are both about 5' 9" average build

It's a great program...

After finding myself at 312lbs I decided to change my life with the Body For Life program. My 1st challenge started January 2nd, 2003 and went from 312 to 264 in the first 84 days. I'm currently on the second Challenge and feel great. I bid for layovers at hotels with workout room or somekind of gym (Member of Ballys) nearby. Most have a $5.00 a day fee or 10.00. Nutrition is the key here like any other regimen. I learned to eat at healthy places, Boston Market. One thing that is very important is portion control. I often go out with the guys to places like TGIF and order the 12 ounce steak and ask the waiter for a togo box before I start to eat and pack half of it away for later. For someone like us that we live in restaurants portion control is the key. For supplements, when I'm home I do the shakes and on the road the carb control protein bars. I stay away from epheda products and use ThermalDynamix from EAS as well as the Cytovol during my workout.
Overall I have done really well with BFL. If you want to see workout journal and before and after pics go to my website. http://home.comcast.net/~dc8driver

Took a look at the pics. Man, you're a big dude! Curious, did you have any problems maintaining a 1st class Medical?

Glad the diet's working for you guys. This is a job where being overwieght can actually end a career, not just end the days of wearing your clothes from college.:)

-Boo!

oh yeah, watch out for the supplements

Forgot to mention the supplements. I would not be lulled into buying a lot of the products they offer you. You can sink a ton of dough into all the myoplex crap and the like. The only supplement I use (if you want to call it that) is I'll usually have some EAS 100% whey protein and skim milk for breakfast. It's probably the cheapest lean protein out there and it's easy to take on the road with you in a ziplock bag. Also easy to take on the road is a bag of oatmeal (tasty when mixed some natural applesauce). You're only limited by your imagination. Good luck out there and great job DC8DRIVER.

Also, thanks for the ride to HNL a while back on ATI.

Still,

I never had a problem keeping the First Class but I definetly needed to get it under control before the EKG is mandatory. I went from a 50 in uniform pants to a 42 now and going down. I felt I needed to do something specially for my career and my own health. God forbid I had to exit one of those windows in an emergency! Now I actually can. One thing about the program I have found helpfull is that you don't look at it as a "DIET" because that's very hard to keep in our profession. I look at it as a way of life, exercising because you like it not because you HAVE to. During the first challenge I actually enjoyed going to the gym and I still do.

Someone mentioned the supplements. Everyone is getting in the make a buck bandwagon with supplements and I agree you need to research and find out what works best for you. They can get very expensive. After the first challenge EAS sent me a check for 250.00 worth of supplements and that helped quite a bit.

C ya,
Carlos

thanks for the input, folks.

dsee8driver, keep up the good work, you're making excellent progress!
