Somebody told me it was Spring. If this is spring, I am the guy in the Paris Hilton video.

So, as you can probably guess, I'm not flying. That leaves lots of time to read Flightinfo, or just post random jargon.

So here goes mine. I just pulled up our flight tracking software to look at ANC arrivals. I noticed someone had filed and IFR plan from Z41-ANC in a C172. Thing is, Z41 is Lake Hood Strip and is connected to ANC by a series of roads and taxiways, allowing you to taxi between the two. I wonder if this guy was from out of state and wonder what the controllers response was on CLCDLY.

Cessna: "Lake Hood Clearance, Cessna 12345 IFR to Anchorage."

CLC: "Cessna 12345 is cleared to ANC via taxiway Alpha, with a left turn on Lake Hood Blvd., followed by another left on taxiway C."

I only remember AK having 2 seasons....winter and other. BTW are you still interviewing with FRE? I saw you had a old post about an interview. I talked to them awhile back. Seemed like nice folks but the pay was really low, even for freight. I took a local freight gig instead...they didn't have a 99 though. Also, that 172 might be on floats.

Unfortunately I can't get away from work for the interview, so I am going to call FRE to let them know I can't make it. The pay didn't seem all that bad compared to the regionals.

Z41 is the identifier for the gravel strip. The lake has another identifier. So that would have to be a 172 on wheels, unless there is somewhere to land a float equipped aircraft at Ted Stevens.

Cheers

The four seasons

Sure Alaska has four seasons:

Freeze up.
Winter.
Break up.
Construction.

Just barely above zero (F) in FAI. Light snow most of the day.

Blah.

Thats great!!!!LOL

Here's my guess about that. It was probably Arctic Flyers. They have a 172 in which they give instrument instruction. They park at lake hood near the strip. I'm guessing it was an instrument training flight, and they had to file as it was below VFR here in ANC for much of the day.....sooo they departed Lake hood strip, as that is the shortest taxi for them (by as much as 2 miles) but they had to file to a destination served by an approach, Z-41 has no approach, so they filed for ANC

Man, they were having such a grand time goofing on the dude, don't ruin it with a plausible explanation.

I would have paid good money to have heard the tower give the clearance to that guy.
