Just had a flight in an open cockpit Stearman biplane over New Orleans. Probably the best 1/2 hour of my flying history. Highly recommended! I have lots of pics for anyone intreasted.
Just wanted to share with everyone the joy I had flying!!
Open cockpit flying is great. I'll look at some pictures.
I took my first ride in a Waco UPF7. Later in life I got to help restore it. Before we covered the top wing we all lined up and mooned the camera.
If anyone is restoring a Waco and finds a picture in the top wing stapled to a rib of 6 guys with vertical smiles....I'm the one second from the right.
In 2002 I was lucky enough to hitch a ride in a Stearman from OshKosh to Oklahoma City. THAT was awesome. I love those things. I actually got about 5.5 hours of stick time, during a 10.5 hour trip. Stearmans are just awesome...hard to belive guys used to solo in those things after just a few hours!
A friend of a friend owned a Stearman back around '96. That was one of the best moments of my life. Got to fly around for an hour or so in a beatiful PT-17 over Atlanta. I didn't come down for days after that!
Sounds like fun. The only problem is that without a heater, my head got pretty cold bobbing up and down in the wind. I had a bit of freezer burn on my cheeks (face cheeks that is) when I was done, but my smile went from ear to ear. Gives a new perspective to the folks that flew the mail in all kinds of weather using open cockpit birds!
