I'm due for a BFR within a month. What happens if I am unable to get it done by then. I know FAR61.56 states that I cannot act as PIC till I have a BFR in the preceding 24 calendar months. But it doesn't mention anything about the BFR expiring. Given this scenario what I would have to do to get current again?

61.56 states you need to accomplish a flight review within the 24 months preceding the month you will act as pilot in command

This means as long as you had a BFR in the past 24 months it doesnt matter wether its been 1 month, 24 months or 20 years since the previous BFR as long as you have had the required flight review in the preceding 24 months

Your airman certificate doesnt expire. You just need to comply with the requirements to be able to excercise the priviliges one of them being a flight review in the past 24 months
