Where are the best and worst crew rooms or pilot lounges you guys have ever been in/seen? - Dosen't matter if its 121, 135, or 91. What about flight planning rooms? What about the strangest or most funny thing that has gone down in a crewroom?

My favorite FBO crewroom is the Signature at HPN.

The worst FBO crewroom I've ever seen is hands down the smallest ever, Altoona, PA (AOO). In 1999 it was (and I think still is) a 5 by 8 closet with 2 recliners and a 12 inch TV in the corner all the way up in the ceiling. The TV got 2 channels both PBS and black&white, no sound.

Best 121 crewroom I guess would be DCA

Worst is the old trailer aka the "crack shack" in PHL. Haaaa the memories - rampies dealing in the back, rampies smuggling guns, rampies watching boot leg movies and pornos at lunch, the time they broke the glass on the front of the snack machine and stole all the candy out of it, going to get your crew meal out of the fridge and finding out the box bag was tampered with and half your sandwich was gone along with the cookie or muffin only to see a rampy at the picnic table eating what looks like the other half. And O we can't forget the couches, not the ones that showed up when they made that room on the side but the ALG ones in the first room (before they put the dispatch release counter there) that were so infested with lice that you could actually see the lice crawling around on them. The Porn on the Mesa computer. Mesa having ALPA meetings in the 12 by 10 "rest room" with three other airlines present. The picnic table that just wouldn't die (it kept collapsing and Allegheny kept repairing it) you put your legs at risk sitting at it, but it was either that or the lice couch. And last but not least the overflowing Mens bathroom toilets that the rampies would stuff up. Yes I can still see it in my head, the sea of piss and crap that pooled up on the floor by the door to the mens bathroom about once a week. The best was the last 2 weeks before we moved to F terminal in 2001, the company didn't want to pay to fix the overflowed toilets as they were giving the "crack shack" over to the fuelers. They set up port o johns out back. It was june and 90 degerees out so you can imagine the smell in the trailer. We'd hold our breath run in, grab the release and run out as fast as we could.

In the old crew room in LGA I saw a rat about the size of a house cat run from under the couch by the pay phone to behind the soda machine.

best ga crew room;

ALB signature, big tv, comfy chairs, free popcorn (woohoo!) nice wsi weather station (not that crapy dtn one that most places have)

CMI flightstar, good planning room with wsi weather, rest room with sofa's, chairs, videotapes, big tv/vcr, also had a workout room, and a couple of bunk rooms to crash in. plus a few decent things to look at (courtesy of UofI right down the street) working the counter, and they had multiple crew cars

121 rooms,
eh, none really jump out at me that i can recall, dca isn't bad i guess, but always feel like an interloper, the way all the mainline people look at you when you come in 'their' room and sit on 'their' couches

not gonna mention the bad ones, don't have that kind of time lol

CommutAir crewroom in CLE. Its comprised of a small trailer with no couches for 60-70 pilots.

Don't you guys get to use the Coex crewroom? My flight case and binders are still in there....I think...

Lousy crew room...

ARW's crew room when they were at the North end of the UAL terminal at ORD. I don't even think it had a TV. A couple of couches for 25 people. Of course we slimy F27 pilots couldn't sit there, the mighty-four-engine-gods had that right;) .

The only entertainment was the occasional slugfest between the Mississippi Valley and Air Wisconsin pilots still "debating" the merger...

Fun times. Can't compete with the "crack shack", though:p .TC

LearLove-

Yes the PHL trailer was a dump. But it was actually better than the old trailer we had to share with the mainline ramp personnel back in the early 90's. It was always interesting going into the men's room and reading the latest literature written on the walls.

Corporate Air AGC

Allegheny County, PA. They have these massage chairs in the pilots lounge that are in-freakin-credible! Coulda sat there all day.

Best by far is Jet at TEB.. work out room, very comfortable sleep rooms that are very nice, conference rooms, etc, etc, ... A very close second would be Signature Flight Support (LAS) although pretty much all the Signature's rank very high in my opinion..

worst is AOO by far....

Hehe,

LearLove is right. That PHL trailer (both incarnations) was absolutely horrible. You couldn't even leave because of the ridiculous bussing arrangement. I remember right after the Mesa buyout of ALGs Shorts and 1900s. What a lovefest that was.

I remember hearing that the PHL trailer/ramp was actually in a different county from the main terminal, and that it had more favorable work rules/regs, which is why the most senior US ramp people would work there. I remember one deal where a ramper was servicing the DHC-8 lav by putting the fill hose in the lav bowl. The captain mentions that there is a hookup outside for that, and the next thing he knows, he's getting yelled at by some shop steward about not telling his man what to do unless he wants trouble.

Of course, the CLT crew room had it's own amusments. God bless the CCAir pilots, but they cooked some nasty a&* stuff in that microwave. One look inside would cure you of what ever weight problems you had, plus the smell of that greasy-as-balls Pizza Strada and day's old hot dogs from right out side. Don't forget the contest in the men's room to see how many nose droppings could be placed on the wall.

At least PSA had those comfy leather chairs in PIT

I often wonder why we do this to ourselves...a couple of guys and a day at the Salvation Thrift Mart could do wonders for most airline crew rooms at minimum cost. Maybe its like flight bags...the guy with the rattiest and most duct taped flight bag is the coolest.

Nu

Worst pilots lounge: any one that you go into as a freight dog. I was in PGV today sitting on the couch with my feet on the floor like a good boy reading a book, a deep one at that. I was the only person there. There was a lot of noise in the hall so I closed the door. A couple of minutes later the head honcho comes in and starts hacking on me telling me how all the freight dogs come in take their shoes off, sleep on the couches, pass gas (I kid you not!) and stink up the place. The funny part is that there's this lady who works there who smokes like a locomotive and the air in that entire FBO is absolutely rancid. And then he told me that pilots who needed to sleep should go rent a room. . . all for closing the door to read in quiet.
MYR sucks, too. Uncivil.
But when I go someplace in the King Air it's completely different, of course.
Best: SFS in ADS?
OK, now I feel better.

Have to second that one. But hey, the company has asked for a double wide! Gotta love being trailer trash.

Don't you guys get to use the Coex crewroom?
Haven't heard one way or another. The company got the trailer, but nobody has said we could not use the Coex crew room. Some of our guys use it and nobody says anything. Rumor is the company is looking for a room in the D concourse for us.

Dulles has a pretty nice FBO, internet, free shoe shine, very nice coffee machine.

The worst, anybody remember the old trailer at the D con before the new E con went up in CLT, what a frikin dump, I especially loved the "seperate" smoking area, yea right. You walk in to get the release, and you smelled like an ash tray before you could make it out the door, just to walk out and be greeted with a Jet Scream blaring in your face.
