I've been unemployed for a long time now and am researching WIA funds to maybe get some training in something that might pay off. There will be 5-8,000 available but the 8,000 is supposed to be very limited to high demand jobs like nursing etc. As I don't think I could get a medical without lying about a medicine I'm currently taking (which I won't do) I hesitate to try and use it for flying....although getting the CFII would be nice. I realize I don't have to have a medical to be a CFI but I do to get paid for it. Anyhow....I'm 43 which probably makes changing careers worse than being 23. I've been in IT for a long time but that area sucks for jobs right now as well. I'm guessing there is very little that you can get training on for 5 grand that might turn into something down the road....but as I go to WIA orientation next week I'd like to get some opinions because of course there is a lot that I "don't know".

I feel your pain, unfortuantely I don't have any suggestions. However, being that I'm in the same boat, could you tell me how to go about accessing these funds. I live in Texas. Thanks. Keep your chin up.

I was talking to a professor about taking a computer forensics class and he suggested I could use the funds for it and gave me the number. Every "county" I believe has different guidelines. A quick google gave me this http://www.twc.state.tx.us/boards/wia/txwia.html and maybe it will help you get started looking into it anyhow. I'd get in touch with someone locally in your county and talk with them about it.

Thanks for that reply, will look into it, as it seems that reinventing myself wouldn't be a bad idea with all the doom and gloom out there.
