C'mon, you know you've done it at least once! Let's hear it!
If you have'nt, don't be a rumor virgin...go out and start one!

Management was seen looking at some magazine that had a picture of an RJ on it.... Dude, we're gettin' jets. Big announcement comming next week from the MEC

A few of my favorites...

Southwest is taking over the world
XJET is buying SKYW
SKYW is buying XJET

and the one rumor that every citizen of the US knows....

...all pilots make $150,000 a year.

ok this is very naughty of me........

About a 1 1/2 years ago a buddy and I were ferrying a ATR from the desert to YUL to be sold to Cape Air. We stopped for gas in CLE. At the time there was a lot of hub bub about Commutair doing CAL flying while Express had guys on furlough.

You should have seen the FO's faces pressed against the RJ cockpit windows when they saw the ATR back after being gone for a year. So we decided to have a little fun with our coworkers.

When we'd get on the radio we'd say somthing like....."CLE ground Commutair......I mean ATR 834 taxi with LIMA."

Ya that was dirty:D

Seniority number fun

Some background...

Me and my buddy's were brand new FO's on reserve at AE. Spending our airport appreciation time (ready reserve) sitting in the crew room.
This was during a time of APA negotiations with management
This was in 1999 were Y2K was on everyones mind.
Eagle prints your 4 digit seniority number on just about everything.
For some mysterious reason leading zeros started showing up on those printouts, for example if your seniority number was 2400, it would appear as 02400 on the printouts.

My buddy just stated fairly loudly that his sister worked for SABRE as a programmer in Oklahoma City (main SABRE stuff happens there)...this past weekend she and the other programers were CALLED IN ON A SUNDAY to add the capability of the Eagle partition of SABRE to handle FIVE digit seniority numbers. This is 0700

By 0900 In the minds of the Eagle pilots at the time this could only mean one thing...the Holy Grail for an Eagle pilot...seniority list integration with APA.

By the afternoon when it was accepted that list integration was imminent...the talk turned to how it would be done

nothing less than DOH

3 for 1

4 for 1

Staple us

Staple them

Invert & Staple, etc.

TOO FUNNY!!!

That was cruel, igneousy....

:D

So there I was, a frustrated senior warrant in an air cavalry troop wishing I had some more zest in my life. As I was on hold on the telephone in ops in late March, I scratched out a few lines on the notepad there:

"4 AH-1"
"6 OH-58"
"With Crews"
"Spanish language capability preferred"
"6 months"

and left it by the phone when I left the room.

Several days later, I was in a meeting with my troop commander complaining that I was not given a shot at some more colorful assignments (my request to deploy to Kenya as a tactical trainer had been disapproved). A smile came over his face and he said, "I can't say much about it now but I think such an opportunity may be coming your way." He reached around and handed me the note I had scribbled out a few days earlier. I couldn't believe my luck with the timing of the whole thing. It was April 1st.

Without taking the note, I simply said "April Fool!"

He understood he had been had, and crumpled up the paper. The meeting was over.

When I was at ACA in the good old days before 9/11, I started one that we were going to get bought by UAL and get 3 to 1 integration on the list. The timing was perfect for this b/c we had just weeks earlier gotten moved to BP8 priority on nonrev listing which was a pretty big deal back then. The way I spread it was by taking the top off one of our official company letters / memos, and then I taped it over a home-made phony announcement. I photcopied it and then left it laying around the computers in the crew room. I even put a couple "remarks" in pen like pilots always do when they read something. It was beautiful. I'm still proud of myself.
Anyway, about 2 days later I am flying with this CA who is PI$$ED because he had about 8 yrs with ACA and was just hired by UAL, which would have made him lose about 3 yrs seniority if he had been absorbed as an ACA pilot. I could'nt watch this guy suffer anymore and let the cat out of the bag. He was so happy to hear it was BS that he bought me and the FA a steak dinner and paid for all the beers that night.
In all honesty, I think he was the only one who believed that rumor.

When at my previous job:

"Stick around, we're going to be the next (insert major cargo airline here)"

Other good ones from my days at Brand X:

"They're putting seats in the back of the planes next week"
"We're getting a raise"
"They fired (insert name of lifer here) yesterday"
"They re-hired (insert name of lifer here) today"

And the best one to date:

"Kit Darby was right!"

Hey I.P,

I thought you guys had jets. Big white ones. If you want to start a rumor start that you are getting Saabs...

Hey, I didn't say I started that rumor RECENTLY... ;)

Besides, I hear that they all have paint on them now... ALLLLLEGEDLY....

I didn't start this one, the boss did: "We're hiring."

It's persisted for at least 4 years.

Fly SAFE!

Every day (except the last 18 months)...there's 90 seaters in Mirabel with our names on the tails and certificates.

Same time frame...there's gates at SLC with our names on them (been going around some say for 10 years)

3 years ago...we got the 40 seaters because we can put rafts in the closets and take over the caribean from Eagle and USAirExpress

Dallas is a done deal.

Atlanta is a done deal.

JFK is a done deal.

Post CHQ announcement but Pre CHQ operations...Delta is ticked at CHQ because they can't ramp up their DCI fast enough (in part because of the air stairs situation) and they (DAL) are pulling the deal.

Same time frame even including today...CHQ agreed to a FFD so low they are losing money on every DCI flight.

And of course everyone's favorite circle of logic...if we say no we'll get the planes anyway, unless we don't get them, in which case they knew where they were going anyway.

None of these are mine of course, but I believe I was responsibile for one of the many "there's a BIG announcement coming on the 15th" type rumor. Man that is the best one EVER, because it spreads like wildfire and the more people hear it the more they spread it and so on, and each time it takes on a new form, like when you all whisper a story to eachother in CRM class and the last person's version is something else.

Try it, its almost too easy.
