Because being treated unprofessionally gets old really fast,
i would like to request your honest opinion about which regional airline is the best to sign up with .
I know skywest, republic and expressjet are hiring...
east coast would be nice, florida base would be the best but highly unlikely to happen, QOL a priority.
Skywest XJT and CHQ line pilots please express your experiences with your airlines

I would say all of those are good options although I would probably include Air Wisconsin on your list. I've been happy at XJT and feel I'm treated very fairly. Pay is good for a regional after 1st year, the company pretty much follows the contract which isn't bad for the industry, and management is fair especially in the flight ops division. The only draw back to the company in my opinion is the quality of the bases....EWR, IAH, and CLE are like choosing between getting kicked in the face, stomach, or nuts.

I enjoy my QOL very much at CHQ. Only complaints that I have are related to our company's "view" of our contract. It seems that there are many "gray" areas in our contract that always go their way. Go figure. Overall though, can't complain, I like it here (as much as you can like a regional).

Also really like the PBS bidding.

Personally yes I do think it's safe. That's obviously not based on any hard fact just a gut feeling. People will tell you all kinds of stuff but bottom line is, XJT is a good company, with good people, and a management team that seems to be doing everything in it's power to provide work for the airplanes. What else can you ask for? Everything I've heard points to positive things for us in the future. In fact I think that announcements will be coming sooner rather later...probably sometime this summer. Look for the company to diversify quite a bit doing a lot of different things with a couple of different companies...it may even be outside the realm of normal airline flying. I really don't think that XJT is any more risky than any other regional out there. Unfortunately if you are looking for job security, the regional airline biz might not be the place for you. Put the app in and go to an interview wherever you get one, the experience will help and it never hurts to hear what they have to say. Good luck with your decision.
 
Go for the one where you want to live. Not commuting with lots of days off gives you plenty of time to enjoy other things on the side. And it gives you the strength to deal with the regional lifestyle.

My 2 cents.
 
I agree with FCPhotography. Not commuting I think makes the regional airline job much more tolerable. In fact I don't think there is a regional out there that is worth commuting to. (though a lot of pilots do) From the time I set the parking brake till I'm in the front door is about an hour. So my advice as well is to pick a good regional with bases that you wouldn't mind living at and go there.
 
You have to ask yourself what is the goal that defines the best regional? Is is QOL, is it pay as an F/O, is it quick upgrade tine, does the resume fluff that comes from this job help me move toward my ulitimate careeer goal? Until you have answered these questions it is difficult to define what is best.

I hear things are about to bust loose......upgrade should be in the 12-18 month range.

Plus, they treat pilots like valued professionals with which they could not possibly operate without. Every contact from scheduling is like a "meeting of the minds," whereby a plan of action is developed that mutually benefits everyone, espcially the lucky US Airways customer. That's the real winner in all of this, the customer, who is consistantly greeted by cheerful, well rested employees.

All in all, a win-win situation over there at PSA!

I will say this. being away from flying only makes me want to fly again.

the break is good though. sometimes you need alot of time away from it to refocus...

That's the right email address to get you resume to HR. Our hiring has slowed right down from the frantic pace of about 12 months ago. We hired and trained more in 18 months than we've really done at any other time in AWAC's history. As far as time is concerned, we got burnt by quite a few "high" timers, who left before they had even finished indoc, so that's part of the reason for the hiring of low-timers. Right now, I would recommend you keep sending resumes and even try and call HR up in Toon Town. Although, it seems that you need a rec from a current line pilot and preferably one who's flown with you, to get an interview.

As far as holding DCA straight out of class, not a chance! It's our senior base and by the looks of things there are 110 numbers between the junior most RSV FO in DCA and the guy at the very bottom. Sorry but I can't tell you how long you'd have to hold out in ORF or PHL before being able to move to DCA. We've got a lot of ex-Indy guys that I'm sure want DCA.

The last numbers I heard and this was good as of a month ago were 12-16 CA's a month and 8-10 FO's. The FO's seem to be about right but the CA's are working out lower than that.

Besides G*Jets and MESA, go with the first one that hires you. The probability that your company will be sold, bankrupt, or furloughing is about 90%. I'm not a bitter pilot(yet), I still love what I do. I just understand that eventually one of those events will happen. I sure hope Home Depot will take me back.
 
The best advice I can give is live in base. I'm home, walking through my front door, about 30 minutes after the parking brake is set. It makes the non-commutable pairings (early start, late release) something I can live with.

Good luck, stay away from Mesa and G0Jets.

I think you should apply to Colgan Air. I hear they treat their pilots with a lot of respect, their planes never have any MEL's, their contract is excellent, their bases are phenomenal, the captain and FO pay is top notch, and, you may even get a chance to make an extra buck if your on the B1900 by being a flight attendant.

there is no such thing as a good regional, which smells worse cat sh!t or dog sh!t. Doesn't matter they are both sh!t. Find another profession. That's my opinion.

F9 Buff don't put CE-501 down under a/c flown just bc you rode along as part of the ATP program. I bet you logged it as SIC time too huh?
