Travelpro makes CRAP!!! Had mine for 3 trips before the main zipper started coming apart. On trip number 5, the zipper stopped working completely. I spent 2 hours in my hotel room trying to wrestle a clean pair of underwear from it!!!

To make matters worse, the very next morning I yanked the top of the handle clean off the extensions!!! Went to pull it up a curb, and the only thing that made it was the rubber handle piece. The comic relief was fantastic for my crew though.

I've been buying $40 Kmart specials for 6 years. The only reason I've had to replace them, I tend to walk the wheels off them in about a year. Thought Travelpro would be a step up... boy was I wrong.

My PNS is enroute. The Travelpro will be repaired and relegated to backup/wife status.

I'll second your comments on Travelpro, they are JUNK. I'm fortunate in that UPS gives us new Travelpros every two years, they don't last much longer than two years, if that long.

Another vote for the Costco Kirtland bag. Their no hassles return policy is great as is the bag itself.

Yes it fits in the overhead. If you overstuff it though it can be tough. (Though you can force it in.)

Being a disgruntled TP bag owner, I made a trek to the aforementioned discount warehouse.

The 22" bags available for $89 are now $99. However, I was unable to find it in my favorite color of Black--available in green, beige, and blue, but no black! Maybe they had a run on Black after the free adverstisement.

Can anyone confirm that this bag comes in the absence of color, color? There were a selection of duffle style roller bags next to the others in black--but no thanks to duffles; I had enough of that in the military.

Maybe, I hit the store on the wrong day!

bag

I've had one of the samsonite 22" hardside bags it's been to H*ll and back and keeps on rollin'. I commute every week and it hold up fine. Cons: won't slide strait in to many overhead bins You have turn it side ways. Only two outter pockets. If you like to keep a small laptop in your bag, it has to go inside. Pro: tough bag (I don't have to send it in every year like the PNT bag). Less carry-ons now that most folks are checking their bags so plenty of overhead bin space. I got got mine new at "outter marker" pilot shop. It was about $130 plus shipping ($10).

One more thing about the Costco bag:

Brookstone sells the SAME EXACT bag for $300!!! I found this out the hard way, but Brookstone did let me take it back. I was sold on the return policy (same as Costco).

Try a different store (if possible). I returned my bag because I broke the plastic clip for the strap used for attaching other bags to the front. When I picked out the replacement bag, the store that I was at only had the blue, green and a dark brown that I could have sworn was black (except for the handles which were tan, ugly). I don't know, maybe I'm going blind in my old age or the lighting was playing tricks on me , but after getting it back home, I realized that sitting next to my black flight kit, it was indeed dark brown. I ended up calling another store and asked them about the bags they had and whether they were ALL BLACK. They had plenty in stock so I went there and gave them the brown one... Overall, I'm happy with the bag and the return policy of CostCo. And I'm not even a member! My sister got it for me.

Take some LocTite to the frame screws of a PNS bag and you'll sleep better at night. I hate the feeling I used to get on leg 3, day 1 of a 4 day when I noticed the frame screws where loose. An easy fix if I had my leatherman...but then again, with a leatherman, I could really SCREW something up...according to the tsa

Do you have to be a member to go into the store? Like Sam's Club?

Got the Cosco Kirkland bag tonight at another store--in black. With tax, it was around $108. Interesting enough, it is very similar in design to a Travel Pro that I have. I did ask one of the associates about the return policy and was told that as long as I owned the bag, it could be returned for any reason for either a refund at the current cost or replaced with same product.

I have had many bags. I have never had that guarantee.

The bag appears to be good for about 2 years of abuse.

Thanks for the good info Speedtape,

Are you a member of costco? I thought you had to be a member to shop there.

You Costco/K-mart guys are killing me. By far the most indestructible bag in the universe is the aluminum, hard side bag from www.zerohalliburton.com
They are small enough to fit in the overheads and are lockable. They are quite expensive but you get what you pay for. HS

The answer is yes and yes! Find a friend with membership and go with them. I think you can still pay for it with your credit card. Costco takes AMX--Sam's only takes Discover.

FYI--If you want to make a purchase at Sam's, there is a way around the credit card thing. Determine how much you might spend at Sam's, then go to a Walmart and purchase a Walmart gift card with any credit card, then take the Walmart card to Sam's and use it towards your purchase. Sounds like a hassle, but on a major purchase, $100 or more it usually is worth it.

It seems while in Walmart recently, I saw a sign on checkout that they were no longer accepting AMX in September. But they still take all the bank credit cards for the purchase of that Walmart gift card that is good at Sam's and also gives you a 3 cent discount on gas purchases.

Good Luck at Costco's. The bag is a deal with the guarantee.

The metal bags that were mentioned are indestructible, costly, and not too flexible when trying to jam them in a storage place. What is going through security like when you use the metal bag?

you can get a free one day pas to shop at Costco. Just tell the id checker at the door and they will send you to the membership desk to get it
