I've been looking at OAG's website, and they have a variety of guides, ranging from $80 to $120 a year.

Any suggestions? What do you guys use?

What do you get that you can't do from their internet website?
Well, I'm looking for an actual book I can put in my carry-on bag. Something I can whip out the next time I doscover my ATL-TYS flight's been cancelled. (I'm one of those neanderthals who doesn't have a wireless PDA yet.)

Typhoon1244,

I bought a basic palm pilot off Ebay over a year ago for cheap. it's not wireless, but i download all the electronic timetables for each major onto it. cheaper than paying for one of those OAG subscriptions, plus i do all the logbook stuff on it...

I tried the palm pilot thing but it becomes to much of a hassle and when you really need it the batteries always seem to be dead. I think the starting price is 75 bones but I just a subscription renewle letter for 69 bucks. They'll even credit you for the ones that are lost in the mail.

call 800-678-6738, for skyguide, tell them that you are a pilot and they will give you a discount. Its a great tool to have with you when you are a commuter. It does take about a month or so to get the first one. Also if you have a PDA you can go on line and download the guide to it as long as you have a subscription.

I think the magic number is $49.00 for a year.

When my OAG ends in a month I am moving to skyguide.

BTW.. I use a PDA and carry the book.. at times it is faster to flip to a page in the book to find conx with different carriers than to play the PDA game to create a conx to get home. Although OAG finally did come out with some decent software that is as good as the book.... and no my PDA is not wireless (I am too cheap) but I did pick in up for a great price on E-bay and I do my logbook with it...

I've subscribed to SkyGuide for about 10 years now, and I never leave home without it. Even during my first 8+ years when I wasn't commuting, it still came in handy for non-reving. But now that I commute, it's priceless. I don't want or need a PDA, I much prefer an actual book that I can make notes in and refer to in a hurry when Plan A, B, and C fall through. I also prefer the SkyGuide format over the OAG format. With SG, you look at the city that you're currently in and see where you can go from there...with OAG, you look at the city you're travelling to and the flights that go there. It's a matter of personal preference I guess.

I had no idea that you could get a discount. I just renewed my subscription and it was $85!! I know I said it was priceless, but geez, I'm gonna call about that discount.

I just ordered skyguide today.. $52 for pilots...

I also called OAG to see what they would do.. $80 per year and you have to do 2 years...

Also, the PDA functions of OAG are going to be a "pay" service in another month or so.. also at the same rate as the print version. SO... if you want both print and PDA of OAG.. plan on better than $150 per year.

The OAG PDA version is really good.. but now that I have the Skyguyide version..

I would say Skyguide is much better.. it will "find" the conx for you where OAG you have to "build" them with the PDA.

Either way you cannot go wrong, it all comes down to how much you can afford to spend....
