Where can I find regs for the required radio equipment for a 91 flight to Bermuda?

Nav is not the problem..no HF on board and except for this trip there should not be any other time to use it.

Is it possible to get away with a sat phone for the comm?

Thanks

FAR 91.511 (Radio Equipment for Overwater Operations)

Also I believe Bermuda is in RVSM airspace. Aircraft must be RVSM certified.

New York Oceanic has control. Don't know about the SATCOM angle, sounds interesting though.

vortex,
i fly there often. they fine you if you enter oceanic airspace without hf. call them and find out your options. whoever gives you answers, get their name and employee number. always do the same when getting info from the feds. different guys will tell you different info. its the only way to cover your ass.

Bermuda lays in the confines of the WATS area of the Western Atlantic which is RVSM from FL 290 to 410. However, you are not required to have HF capability unless you are flying into the Shanwick OCA. Their are alternate procedures for VHF communications. You have to have an LOA in order to use RVSM airspace as well.
