The "dings" heard just before landing are the signal for the flight attendanrs to sit the *(&^ down. "Cross Check" on the PA usually means to ensure that the doors are armed and the red strap is across the window so some dork doesn't open the door and blow the emergency slides...

the bells are signals for the cabin crew that the pilots both have their guns at the ready. happens in the critical phases of flight, i.e, take off, initial climb, and landing.
the 'crosscheck' prompts the flight attendants to quickly scan the crowd one last time for mohammad and his pals.
The bells remind the flight attendants to breathe and to get in the kitchen and make me some food.
Crosscheck is a reminder for them to check the other flight attendant for proper breathing.
