I'm looking to get out of town in the fall and was thinking of Belize.

Anyone been? Give us the low down.. hotel recommendations, night life, etc.

Brooke Burke was there at a place on 'Wild On'.. looked like fun...

I'm strictly looking to get away for sun, sand, and fun.... someplace new.

I have been to Belize on a trip about 5 years ago. We were there for three days. If you are not a diver and dont have a boat, there is not much to do. I remember asking where the beach is and they told me it was about 45mins away....by air.

So if your looking for beach I cannot recommend it but if you are a diver i hear it is one of the best in the world. They have the second largest reef in the world. Only the great barrier reef in Australia is bigger

Good luck

I grew up in BZE:

If you are not into diving there are plenty of other things to do. Mayan Ruins, Caves, Rivers, Birding, Fishing, etc.
The mainland does not offer any beaches and stay away from BZE City.

Ambergris Caye which is where Ramons Villiage is definitely is a hot spot but the island is over priced and packed with tourists. If you want someting a bit more quiet, cheap, then go to the island next door, Caye Caulker. Plancencia is a great place as well. Punta Gorda is the farthest South but most quiet and laid back of the country. You can go across the bay (45 min boat ride) to Guatemala for the day from Punta Gorda.

Good luck...

Nothing against BZE... Never been there. But atleast to me, Brooke Burke could go to Downtown Bagdhad right now and make it look like an exiting vacation destination.

You should see Brooke's replacement...

Nah... even she couldn't get me to vacation in an area with RPG's...

Other places i'm considering are Aruba, Grand Cayman... or the old standby.. Cancun...

:) If you're a bit of a hippie like I am, and enjoy places with no name brands and lots of sun, beer and european women - try Cay Caulker (or Corker, as the locals call it). Rooms on the beach can be had for as little as $30 a night, but don't expect a TV or phone. If you're the hostel type or like to camp out, can spend as little as $10 per night. There's plenty to do if you like to dive, snorkel, fish or just lay around. There's not much shopping, the parties aren't huge, the people are real easy-going and diverse. I've never seen so many little blond-haired, blue-eyed Rastafarians in my life.

You'll need to fly into Belize City and then take either a small charter plane ($50) or high-speed water taxi ($15) to the island. Careful of the charter flights. You wouldn't believe how they over-loaded this little 172, so out of CG they had to hold the tail off the ground until the pilot powered up, and again before shut down (don't ask).

I'll go back one day. Well worth it. Definitely not as exciting as San Pedro, though, if you're really wanting to party.

My opinion, don't waste your time. I don't plan on ever going back. I did most of the other things people recomended and was bored half the time. You will find no night life and no good looking chicks.
