Just saw Comair Acad--I mean, Delta Connection Academy's latest ad in Flying. And I quote:
Delta Connection plans on hiring over 1000 pilots and adding over 100 new jets in the next 12 months alone.
Really? Which flavor of Delta Connection is getting these pilots and jets? (I'll bet the answer ain't "ASA.")

Yeah, we're half of the Delta owned Delta Connection and we're gettin' 23 of them the next sixteen months. As for the number of pilots I'm sure it's a tiny fraction of those 1000.

It says Delta Connection is hiring 1000 pilots -- but that doesnt necessarily mean Com/ASA.

It also includes Chautauqua, ACA, Skywest. With multiple codeshares at each of these companies they may indeed have growth opportunities which would result in pilot-hiring BUT the pilot may find themselves flying an airplane painted in USAir Express colors, or United Express, or even Continental Express.

I think Comair Academy is simply marketing a relationship that they have with 5 airlines. With DCI growth set to come to a grinding halt (after the 58 70 seaters are on the property) I believe both Comair and ASA will see only a tiny fraction of those 1000 pilots.

Hiring...

For one thing, let's consider the source here - an advertisement.

Who can forget Vince at Gulfstream Academy, 0-490 hours in an RJ in 18 months!!!

At Sierra Academy of Aeronautics .. "Our job doesn't end until your career begins!" or the check clears...

At Tab Express Int'l, "the airlines have resumed hiring!" they fly King Airs "at prices most FBOs charge for training in a C-172 or a Seminole!" cool, can I take one for a spin at $80/hr?

Now is the time to pursue a career at Mesa, as they add 100 jets!

And of course Phoenix East is "the fast track to an airline career!"
and apparently you can land a King Air on Daytona Beach too.

all of these can be found in every issue of Flying. they say what the company wants it to say. Truth is the furthest thing from an advertiser's mind....
