I have been trying to get a job w/ fedex & ups and have taken some
of your advice. I just applied for a job part time as a dock associate w/ fedex
to at least get my foot in the door. I have one person that is willing to give me an lor and have a friend of a friend who I am waiting to talk with. Are there any volunteer jobs that could help me. I don't care if I have to scrub toilets to get on w/ fedex or ups. If anyone would be willing to talk with me, I would genuinely appreciate it.

I meet all the requirements and have 5,700 tt and a four year degree. i'll do whatever it takes. Unfortunately, I have no military experience and after reading the threads, it seems that's what fedex & ups prefer. Any more ideas on getting those lor's or a way to get in will also be appreciated. thanks so much...

hop,

I am not positive, but I think that after one year as an employee of FedEx, you are eligible for an interview for any company position you desire as long as they are hiring. So, if in one year from your hire date, the company is still hiring pilots, you should be eligible for an interview. Keep your nose clean, and do a good job for your supervisor. Check into this.

As far as the preference to hire military pilots, this may or may not be true. It is possible to get in without any military service. I am an example of this. I am currently awaiting a class date.

Keep trying. Good luck.

LOL, desperate aren't we?

If a person wants something, they do whatever it takes to get there. This builds a persons charcter and appreciation for what they have attained in life.

You can want whatever you like, but you have to be realistic. Reality is without a military background the chances of getting on a FedEx are remote at best. You better stick to your current regional and push for bigger jets to fly at the regional level.

I disagree. I don't have any military experience. My recommendations are from pilots I had flown with in college and my regional airline. It is all about networking. You have to make friends and keep them throughout your career. It may be easier for military pilots to network, but it is not impossible for civlians.

Bigger jets are nice, but the pay needs to come up along with those bigger jets. Until that happens, the regionals don't have near the appeal of FedEx and UPS.

another insane comment...a lot of civilians are getting hired...do whatever it takes..good luck...best bet is to heed the advice from fdx or ups guys on this issue...disgruntled pilots rarely offer good insight..

You're 100% right! Don't apply here RJDC it isn't worth your $50 since we only hire military.

hopalong, whatever you do don't listen to RJDC.

The guy just cruises these boards looking needle anybody with a better job than his. He needs to change his callsign to schadenfreude.

Keep your attitude, don't get sidetracked by RJDC, and you'll get your dream job.

Best of luck.

Thanks fartknocker, captain mark, and purpledog. You all are down to earth & very helpful. If I get the job as a dock associate or package handler, I'll bust my butt and keep my nose clean. If you guys/gals have any other advice, my e-mail is [email protected]. As for RJDC, you must be a real snob. I'll do whatever it takes to support my family and give them the best life I can.
