Whither Fractional Ownership? Part 1: The State of the Industry

Like all segments of business aviation, fractional ownership took a heavy hit during the “Great Recession of 2008.”

With the economy in the cellar, travel needs diminished and aircraft values plummeting, cash-hungry shareholders lined up in droves to sell their fractions back to the providers since those were among the few sure instruments of liquidity. To survive the downturn, some fractional companies “reinvented” themselves, while at least one major player absorbed its losses by drastically reducing its fleet and falling back on the resources of its wealthy parent.

I think next month's will be even more interesting. They're going to profile ALL of the Fracs. It'll give us a great snapshot of our industry as a whole.

Or you can read the two-part series that AIN did late last year and get the info that you're seeking right now:

Part 1: http://www.ainonline.com/fileadmin/template/main/pdfs/AIN_2011_FraxCharterMarket_pt1.pdf

Part 2: http://www.ainonline.com/fileadmin/template/main/pdfs/AIN_2011_FraxCharterMarket_pt2.pdf

Sure, but things have changed since then. I guess you could use the AIN info as a baseline and compare to the newer info...

Either way, I'll bet it's going to be a good read.

Pay attention to who they interview for these articles also...

Seeing how the first edition was mostly about NJA. I'll use them as an example. The article quoted the former Union leader AND former President of Netjets. Who had an falling out with Sokol. And immediately went on the offensive to the likes of Forbes.

I tend to not trust people who "left for reasons" as opposed to just saying got fired or would have gotten fired. Thier opinions are WAY to biased.

Not saying things aren't screwed up at NJA or any fractional, but NJA going down to 200 a/c??
