I realize how unlikely this is, but does anyone know of anyone who would rent a Barron in the Atlanta area? I appreciate it.

Nearest place to you that I know of is the Robins Air Force Base Aero Club

B-55 for $160/hr wet. The catch is you have to be eligible for membership in the club. i.e some form of authorized access to the air base: active duty, retired, civil service, Civil Air Patrol.

Hope this helps.

You Could Give It A Shot

Two guys that might rent you an airplane if you sound like a hot $hit pilot and know which case of beer to bring to the office.

1. Give Walt Winn a try over at PDK, he's got several Baron's... 55s and 58s that mostly just sit around. You'll find him smoking like a chimney and sipping on the hard stuff upstairs in the 'Downwind Cafe'. Sit down next to him, buy him a drink, act like he is the God of flying - buy him a few rounds, then tell him you need to borrow a Baron. In the past he's just thrown the keys over - so hey, whatever works.

2. Go by LZU and catch old Mel Hall at his desk. He's known to rent out the few airplanes he cant sell, for the right price. He'll talk your ear off but he is funny as heck and a real legend in his own right. Ask him about landing a Grumman Tiger in the parking lot at Northlake Mall, or selling a Queen Air Excalibur that exploded on takeoff, or ... you get the idea. If you tell him that you hate the airport authority he's likely to invite you back again soon!

You might also try this old myth out ...

There used to be a guy out at St. Mountain Airport, "Mr. Briscoe", that would let people use his B55 as long as they left him a little 'deposit'. When the airport closed up shop he moved his airplane to Monroe and I think he still lends it out. He never flies the thing because he lost his medical in like 197?, but he loves the airport and the pilots, but he hates skydivers. So what the heck is he doing in Monroe - self proclaimed sky diving capital - my guess is hoping someone will nail a few on final for him, he just wants to be there to see it.

LXA ... I just spewed Sprite all over my monitor. Thanks for the laughs. I really needed that this morning! :D
