Hey Folks,
Just wondering if anyone knew of any abnner towing or traffic watch outfits in the houston area. Thanks

Houston Banner Towing

I believe there is only one outfit in town, and they were looking for pilots the last time I was there. I don't remember their name, but they flew out of an airport in southwest Houston.

Do a search on Yahoo or something. I remember looking at their website.

The also wanted at least 400 or 500 hours, I forget which.

good luck

Dammed banner planes are all over town!! I'm sure they could use more pilots. Nothing beats sitting outside and hearing the motor cut out on a banner plane going overhead!!! Is that a tactic to make you look up????

chawbein,

If they're like the place I flew for, its more a result of trying to minimize maintinance costs my minimizing maintinance!

But then, most of our flying was on the beach, so we had plenty of emergency landing areas if it quit without having to worry about people on the ground. You'd just have to go for a swim...

Oh yeah........

I live in Houston, by the way. Why don't they have a "short bus" Smilie in the menu to the left??????????

Houston banner towing

The only banner towing outfit I've seen around Houston is based out of Clover Field, 8 miles south of Hobby in Pearland. They fly Pawnees and a Cub or two from what I've seen.

I don't know where the traffic watch guys fly out of...

I know the banner guys in SE Houston, but what about trying the pipeline patrols that are there. I always hear a callsign of "Omaha" which is always a 172 or 182 doing endless circles and tracking the lines all over, you might be able to get more info on them. It's a big city, i am sure there are plenty of these opportunities down there. And hey, it seems i will be moving there shortly, i can look into more information.

There's an assload of oil and gas companies down in H-town, and just about all of them have multiple pipeline patrol planes, although, it seems to be the "right place at the right time" kind of job. I believe most of them are based out of Hobby and possibly Ellington.

Happy Hunting!

Hey speaking of Houston, any of you know of some nice apartments around the HOU area? I know the area right around HOU is nothing but the hood, but how about within 20 or 25 minutes of HOU. We have been debating the clear lake, pasadena, pearland, and the southwest side of town. Let me know what you think, and lets try to keep the rent down since i will not spend too much time there before we move again.

There's an apartment complex on Almeda-Genoa just west of 45 called Windmill Lakes. My wife and I lived there after getting married in '88. It was pretty nice then, with a couple of lakes, canoes, sailboats, pools, gated, etc. It looks like it's been maintained pretty well since then, so I believe it'd be worth checking out. It's just a few miles from HOU.

Pearland is about the next closest area off 35. Lots of houses and apartments that are pretty nice in that area, but it's growing fast and starting to get congested like Clear Lake.

starchkr,

West side is the best side!!!!!

I used to live in the Galleria area, and that is about 30-35 minute drive from HOU outside of rush hour. Plus you're close to the bars and restaurants, and it's about the most convenient place you could ever live. That's just my two pesos!

Oh yeah, it hardly ever floods on the West Side!

I live in Pearland. There is a lot of growth, but, traffic isn't to bad right now. There are a number of new apts that have just been built. I don't know how much rent is though. Probably not cheap. I would stay away from Almeda-Genoa, it isn't the safest area these days. From what I have heard about the traffic and pipeline jobs you have to know someone. There is a traffic watch out of EFD, we see them in the morning, I think they just hired a new pilot. Good luck.

Where you live in Pearland makes a big difference. been here 14 years and it's grown with almost no strategic work on roads in and out. West side is booming. There are some near the Randall's (east side) that look nice but reasonable. Still a nice place overall.

agreed that the Almeda area as a whole is rough, but these apt complexes were like an oasis. But that was in '88. you know for sure they've gone down hill?

I live off 518 going towards Friendswood. There has been a Lowe's, Home Depot, and a Wal Mart Super Center that have opened w/in the last yr. Yes, they roads have not kept pace with the growth. However, it doesn't seem as bad as Sugarland. I was a SWA FA for 5yrs and spent many days around HOU and Almeda areas. The area appears to be run down with a lot of crime. I can say that I have never lived in this area, and there might be some good places to live out that way. Silver Lake out by 288 has become very congested. And going into or out of Houston during rush hour is very slow.

you might want to check out Sugar Land. A little further away from HOU, about 35-45 minutes. Also, you might want to look at the Clear Lake area, pretty nice areas around there. Good luck on your search. Also, parts of Missouri City are fairly nice. Clsoe shopping and everything is close to you. HOU is about 40 minutes from there (traffic depending)

na265 -

I'm pretty close to you in Green Tee. I keep my planes at Wolfe in Manvel and free lance instruct at Clover, EFD or wherever. Maybe we could swap airplane rides one day! ;)

Aero Club mostly. Some experimental and tailwheel wherever I can pick it up.

I guess I didn't realize y'all were offering flight instruction until this weekend when I noticed it on the sign. I just thought you did maintenance. Mike King sure has a crown at his place. must be doing something right.
