When a bank is insured by FDIC, does this mean you're insured only up to 100k total? Or can you have multiple accounts, CDs, Savings, Checking Etc each with 100k and be insured on all your funds? I know you really shouldn't sit on that much money, since it gains no, or very little interest. But I was wandering.

Regards,

TA

FDIC insured banks have insurance limit of 100K PER ACCOUNT. You could have one account in your name only, another account as a joint account with your spouse, another joint account with your child, parent etc. The insurance is PER ACCOUNT.

Also, spread you accounts around to several different FDIC banks.
