A bank robbery was just commited in Olathe, KS. I guess the robber tied people up and took them in a van to OJC (Johnson County Executive in south KC) and was trying to get them in a plane I guess. Last I heard there were shots fired and the Pilot and his student were on the ground handcuffed. I heard they are considered partners in the crime at this point but its too early to confirm. Anyone heard of this?

Shots Fired At Airport After Olathe Bank Heist

OLATHE, Kan. -- Shots were fired at Johnson County Executive Airport after a brief chase that started as a bank heist.

Officers were called to the Capitol Federal Savings bank at 151st Street and Mur-Len at about 9 a.m.

KMBC photographer Jason Rhodes reported that the suspected bank robber left the bank in a gray van, apparently taking several bank employees hostage.

There was a chase that ended at the airport, where shots were fired. One person has been hurt. It is not clear who was hurt. That person was taken by air ambulance to a hospital.

Airport employees told KMBC's Peggy Breit that they heard several shots fired.

KMBC has a news crew at the scene. Refresh this page for updates.

If you watch the live reports on that site, the helicopter pilto stated that they were taking off to cover the bank robbery and had no idea it had reached the airport. They told tower they saw activity on the airport and the controller was NOT aware that the police were on the airport and the shooting had taken place and was actually landing planes on the runway parallel to the taxiway that this all took place on, about 100 feet to the right of the taxiway.

Looking at the plane as well, look like they took out the engine, as there is considerable fluid under the cowling of the 172...

Its funny b/c Im based at IXD just 6 miles west of there and I work for an aircraft sales company. We are the ones that sold that 172 on the news. Strange how its on the side of the taxiway not on the centerline. Theres talk that the pilot is involves as he was cuffed but who knows. Conspiracy pilot theory.

I thought of robbing a bank many times while paying for my PPL, Inst., etc.

Isn't this taking the financing of a PFT program to the extreme?

Man, that's HOT. :D

Sounds kinda like the runaway bride's story...

Hey Jump Pilot,

"The number of pilots required to service these requirements will double and there are not enough pilots in training today to fill the upcoming demand. Knowledgeable sources state 50% of the current workforce will retire in the next 13 years!"

Whats this from?

My boss was over there and said that the plane had bullet holes in it. The robber dude had a female hostage and it seems was running from the police and ended up at the airport. He drove right onto the taxiway to a 172 doing a runup. He got a hand on the strut but the hostage pushed away and the police popped a few rounds off. One hit behind the pilots seat.
