I am planning a trip this fall to go to the Bahamas. We are planning on a 10-12 day affair, in a Turbo 182RG. I am looking for recommendations for places that we should visit that are geared towards island hopping and any other details you may know of. For the purposes of narrowing down the best places to stop/stay, I am looking for recommendations for the following locations:

spanish cay (has airstrip)
new plymouth/green turtle cay (airport at treasure cay)
Hawks Nest (has airstrip)
Pittstown (has airstrip)
Georgetown Exuma (airport at Exuma Int'l)
Stella Maris (has airstrip)
Cape Santa Maria Resort (has airstrip)
Harbour Island (airport at north eleuthra)

We are the type that like interesting places to visit. Not interested in the big flashy resorts, or real dumpy joints either. We also are thinking about doing the trip on the "fly" and do not want to make any advanced reservations if possible.

If I have missed something please let me know.

we spenta few days at Treasure Cay, they have their own airport, and it was wonderful. Best beaches. There are lots of places to stay, but TC was just great.

I spend 2-3 wks every year for the past 5 yrs island hopping in the Bahamas. I also have a 182RG. You are going to have a blast. It is very expensive though. PM me and I can fill you in on everything you need to know. I have been to every island with an airport.

I have been here, trolling mostly. I can't wait 'till summer, these Chicago winters get old real fast! I'm going to Gastons in Arkansas this weekend.can't wait!

TDTURBO,

Since we share the same Palestinian views, a "long" island flight would give us plenty to talk about it and would be tolerable.

My "views" got me in trouble with the moderators so I just read instead of commenting.;) I would rather talk about flying anyway, what am I going to do, change the world? I don't think so. I would love to hear how most of the people on this board REALLY feel about our involvment with Isreal, but I'm afraid the powers that be will squelch any politically incorrect views......Too bad isn't it?

Stella Maris is great. Make sure to bring snorkeling equipment- you can snorkel right from shore. The Inn will drop you off and pick you up. They usually have fuel, but if the fuel truck leaves to go to the fuel farm, they may be without fuel for a day or two. Georgetown is only about 25 miles away, though, and they have Avgas there.

If you want to go to Pittstown, you may want to consider leaving some excess baggage behind, and just pick it up on the way back. In the C182 it might not be a problem, but in my Arrow, in the summer, it was necessary.

When I used to travel through the Bahamas, we would arrive with our big blue cooler full of beer, water, gatorade, and some food (all things that were hard to get or expensive in the islands) and return with it filled with our snorkeling junk and a few bottles of rum.

If you don't have a copy, I'd pick up the "Pilot's Guide to the Bahamas". Have a blast!

As for the two guys who really think that the Palestinians (displaced Jordanians) are somehow in the "right", and the Israelis are "wrong"- you guys really do need to spend some time together in a single over open water.

Don't hurry back.
