I know one guy who couldn't get his bg check squared away because a bench warrant was issued after his DUI. Still flying them planes. Seems to me an MIP is a heck of a lot less than a wide open DUI and a no show in court...

As long as you reveal it on your application and its not a disqualifying offense as per TSA, you wont have any troubles. DO NOT HIDE IT! I myself have some minor criminal offenses and have been hired by 2 121 carriers. Admitance and honesty are most important. DUI will certainly inhibit your chances of ever working for a 121 carrier. Make sure you reveal all information to the best of your ability and have a confessional story and admit you learned from it.

If an arrest is more than 10 years old, do you really need to disclose it? Most applications ask whether you were convicted of a felony or misdemeanor within the last 10 years.

True but bear in mind, Post 9-11 any employer wants to learn everything about you. Most companys now use third party contracted companies to conduct their investigations. They have city, county, state and federal runners who will literally pull criminal records from all places you lived and worked. There is no way to hide from your background. There are thousands of repositories holding information on millions of people. You'd be supprised how much you can learn about someone just using the internet. My advice is reveal it anyways. Even if its simple in nature your courage and admitance will encourage a potential employer to hire you and shows them your trustworthy, which is far more important than making your application look pretty by checking the "NO BOX" to criminal offenses. And lets be realistic. Everyone has behaved in a manner they regret some of us just got caught. If there is anyone on this site who knows the workings of Airline background investigation please trust me. I went through dozens of phone calls with Airline HR, Cheif pilots, ect and all reported the same information. I know its tempting to not reveal it since it was minor or beyond 10 yrs but beleive me if they want to know they can, and if they find out and you lied you will be terminated. Good luck.

From an ex background investigator. Check where you were charged. That will tell you if there is a record or not. If the application only ask for ten years, then anything before that does not matter unless felony. If it ask "have you ever" then it will matter. If you were a juvenile at the time then there is a good chance no record exist. Good luck to you.

Couldnt hurt to check your FBI and/or state record to see what, if anything, is on there. FBI costs $18 to do and states vary, you have to get prints done at a local police dept and send them into the feds for them to check.

Hey I-dog, what's up,

Since I've drinkin with you many times, and knowing how big of a drunk you are, I would hope you don't get a job. That would be scary.

sincerely,
the tenderness

Back ground checks only get those who are charged and convicted. Now digging in crawl spaces, that's where you find the bodies.......
