Time to send this redneck back to Texas where he belongs...

Bush's Political Base Seems Restive, Anxious

By Alan Elsner

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some of George W. Bush's conservative political supporters are increasingly restive and anxious about the president's economic policies as well as his attempts to justify the war against Iraq (news - web sites).

Popular conservative television news anchor Bill O'Reilly, usually an outspoken Bush loyalist, said on Tuesday he was now skeptical about the Bush administration and apologized to viewers for supporting prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this," O'Reilly said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."

Pollster John Zogby said Bush was on the defensive with some polls showing him slightly behind Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites), his probable Democratic opponent in the Nov. 2 presidential election.

"The president is on the ropes right now. The question is, how will he adjust? Right now, the issues are not in his favor. Many Americans still think the economy is poor and his rationale for the Iraq war seems a little thin," he said.

"Bush's greatest asset was his unimpeachable integrity in the eyes of most Americans. But with no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that integrity has been chipped away and right now some large lumps are falling off it," Zogby said.

Bush's White House interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday was designed to calm some of these doubts. But while some pundits gave Bush good marks for his performance, some prominent conservatives were not impressed.

'TIRED AND UNSURE'

Peggy Noonan, a speechwriter for former President Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) and for Bush's father and an outspoken conservative commentator, said: "The president seemed tired, unsure and often bumbling. His answers were repetitive, and when he tried to clarify them he tended to make them worse. He seemed in some way disconnected from the event."

Conservative columnists George Will and Robert Novak and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough, now a cable TV commentator, have also recently criticized Bush's fiscal programs and his attempts to explain them.

Such doubts, if they persist, could spell trouble for Bush's re-election campaign. But conservative political consultant Keith Appell said Bush would soon be able to unify and energize his base.

"The White House has had a string of misfires but I believe they will soon regain their stride. This last month has been a wake-up call, but maybe that's what they needed," he said.

In the past month, Bush's State of the Union Address and his initiative to send manned spacecraft to Mars failed to generate much enthusiasm. Conservatives and liberals both criticized his budget for failing to seriously confront the country's growing deficit problem.

On Monday, Bush delivered an economic report to Congress promising to create 2.6 million jobs this year. Last year's economic report predicted that 1.7 million jobs would be created. Instead, there was a net loss of 53,000.

"Congress has the power to censure the president -- to formally reprimand him for betraying the nation's trust. If ever there was a time for this, it's now," the group said in a statement posted on its Web site.

Democrats hope they can plant seeds of doubt now. "If you can create a drumbeat of criticism in February, it's easier to make the case when it really counts in September and October," said Democratic consultant Jennifer Laszlo.

But Brown University political scientist Darrell West said he expected Bush to recover. "It's damaging when your friends criticize you in public, but by November they will all be supporting Bush," he said.

Bill O'Reilly is a dipsh!t. I liked him for a little while about 3 years ago. Now he is just a windbag spouting "ME ME ME ME ME!!"

I will gladly take a redneck than a "Commie-loving-Kennedy-Wannabe" John F. Kerry. Notice he added an "F." to make himself more like the ever beloved "Son of an anti-semitic- bootlegger/felon" John F. Kennedy.

Whatever, go back to Basston.

But you know what i'm thinking if we are going to be at war for a while I want a guy thats got some green ink.Not a leader who's always using his advisors to make a move.If my kid is going to be shot at i want a guy thats knows what its like.Plus lets face it somebody didn't do the homework needed on Iraq.Just look at the first Gulf War.

Yeah, lets vote for a guy who opposed, among many other matters of military and national security, the Abrams tank, the Bradley fighting vehicle, and the Tomahawk missile. All items that are front line items in modern warfare, Kerry's lack of judgement on issues such as this weaken his credibility on issues of national security. No thanks, I'll take a guy who has led us in 2 wars which militarily achieved their objective in incredibly quick fashion. Oh, and yes, I want guys who use advisors in war plans. Do you really want someone who does it all on his own? Oh and by the way, all Presidents use advisors...because they are experts in their respective fields. No one can be an expert in all fields that the President has power over. Not even John F. Kerry.

Anybody have the 2004 George W. Bush 'Bushisms' calender? It would be nice if we had a president that could at least speak english when he isn't reading a speach written for him off the teleprompter.

You mean read a speech off a teleprompter, just like every other President, including Clinton. Wow, what a hipocrite. Hmmm, can't speak English, apparently you have a hard time understanding English. While not the greatest public speaker of all time, I find it hard to say that a man with a bachelors degree from Yale and a Masters from Harvard 'can't speak English'. If your going to attack him , attach on policy but to say he is 'dumb' just denigrates your own position. You lose credibility on any thing else you say, IMHO.

Everyday, there is a quote from W. that shows his intelligence. I guess you are going to tell me that he didn't say these things?

Is that what Bush is going to say when he goes home next year?

No that's what it looks like when you move your hands over one set of keys to type. It also reads like what most democrats sound like when they are speaking.

What do communists sound like? Fn Fal Fn Fal Fn Fal.

(that's a joke).

I am neither a democrat nor a republican and I didn't vote for Gore in 2000.

No...that's Belgian for, "Hey round eyes, me love you long time!"

Communists, Sandinista and them Middle East pukes, sound like "AK AK AK AK AK AK AK".

I love it when all of you guys talk about who would make the best war decisions, and you have civ in your profile.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Only those that have military backgrounds should be able to vote for President and debate their potential ability to lead. Jeez, what was I thinking?

Hahahaha...I guess my shortcomings as a cryptographer means I better keep my day job. :D

I put "CIV" in my profile, because I never "flew" as a military pilot.

I did "operate" military aircraft though. Usually, the pieces were small enough to haul off the bottom in a milk crate tied to a rope. We got an F-105 off the bottom of the Cheasapeake bay in this fashion. I "operated" quite a bit of that aircraft. We had to use a crane to get the landing gear off the bottom, as that was the largest pieces left after striking the water at high speed. Them Thuds looked like they had the gliding characteristics of a steam locomotive. In this case, the VANG pilot safely ejected out of the "THUD", when he had a low altitude flame out after departing the Pax River Naval Air Station. He was trail plane in a diamond formation and his buddies didn't even know he punched out. I heard from the investigator assigned to the crash, that the pilot ejected at 600 feet and survived.

When the navy pushed an F-14 off the flight deck of an aircraft carrier near the coast of spain, it required more technical methods to retrieve the expensive missiles it was bearing. I heard from the guys that went on that operation, that russian trawlers were circling the area trying to find these missiles before the navy could.

We often times would get calls to salvage F-4's the Marines would lose in the drink, near North Carolina.

Our unit performed a lot of the salvage work on the TWA 800 crash. I was out of the navy by then.

Yea, I was in the military. I just don't have it checked on my profile, because I didn't actually fly airplanes back then.

Cherokee,

I didn't say anything about you not being able to debate. I was simply making an observation.

I see a lot of military hooha from civvies on this forum, and not just this particular post.
