Can anyone that has gone through AWAC training give any insight on the quality of their training. Did everyone make it through in your class? If someone is struggling, did they offer additional help? Do they have the standard indoc test & systems test or are there multiple quizzes, etc? Just wondered, may make the jump there someday. Is the prop to jet transition all that difficult? Currently in the 121 world but am getting jet fever. Thanks for the advice...the thought of going through another airline ground school & learning different procedures, callouts & profiles is dizzying, only want to make the jump if I know its worth it and I wont be burning any bridges, etc.

Thanks

I went through class in the later part of last year and thought the training was very good. I believe that the instructors have changed since then, due to the fact that I saw it advertised on a company memo that they were looking for a ground instructor. They want to see you get through as much as you do. They are not going to spoon feed you, but if you put forth the effort and have a good attitude then they will help you out. I believe if you fail one of the ground tests, they give you a second try after additional training. In the sim, they will give you additional time if you and your instructor agree that you need it. Maybe up to 4-5 more hours. They will not give you a second shot at the checkride though. During IOE if you need more time, they will allocate that also. Again, it all depends on your attitude. As far as the class I was in, all of us made it out of groundschool. I think one person didn't make it out of the sim. As far as I know, everyone that passed the sim made it out of IOE unscathed. I came from flying freight and made it, so you should have no problems. Just be nice to EVERYONE.

Uh Oh, That can only mean one thing!

AWAC doesn't hire people to wash them out. They want to see you pass. Extra time isn't a problem if you have a good attitude and are working hard and showing progress. Do your part and prepare and the instructors will do theirs.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING.

Remember that, and you'll make it through EASILY.

The only guys (2) that didn't make it were former PFT's in my class (go figure...).

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone's advice, especially T-storm Chaser, great insight, much appreciated. AWAC seems like a great place to be, a quality airline. I'm thinking I'll make the jump as soon as my contract is up, would never break a contract...I owe it to my present airline because they have treated me very well. I just want to travel to more places and be at an airline which appears to have contracts that will assure future pilot jobs. I agree attitude is everything, those that want it bad enough are the ones that succeed. Doubt I'd have any problems with the training but just wanted to see what those that have been through it thought of it. No airline training is easy...hopefully my 121 experience will give me a little bit of an edge at AWAC if I get an interview and get hired. Hope to see you guys on the line sometime.

Regards,
Chris

PS...is PHL pretty junior, if not, any guesses on how long before I could get it?

Well, no airline has contracts like that. Our contract seems to be a little better than most regionals, but you never know what could happen. We could go tits up tomm. That is just the way this industry is.

Like anything else, it varies with the cycle of the moon, the tides, what you ate for breakfast, etc. They keep flip flopping which base they need people the most in. Right now you will hold a line faster in ORF. That seems to be where they have sent everyone from the last few classes. In my class it was split down the middle between ORF and PHL, only a couple in DCA. Doesn't look like they give you much of a choice right now, whereever they need you is where you go. But have no fear, you can put in a bid for a domicile change and you will get awarded it when your senority permits it. You might be able to get PHL RES as your awarded base before you get out of IOE, even if you were awarded somewhere else in groundschool. Good luck with your decision. We need all the people we can get, so Crew Sched stops calling me with JR. MANNING. There goes the phone again...........

In my class (we're still in training), the first vacancy we got to bid for was for April. Everyone of us got the base we wanted. The guys in ORF got lines right away, the DCA and PHL guys got reserve.

We were all assigned ORF for March because that is were they had vacancies. However many of us will not start IOE until well into March, so those of us going to other places may not have to do much flying in ORF.

We got an email the other day from one of the managers, saying that hiring will stop until may. They need to get caught up with all the training planned for the next few months, plus attition has slowed down a little bit, so they think the staffing levels should be ok for a while. Said they are postponing the march classes that had been planned until may and no more interviewing for a few months.

Whoever is on reserve now will be on reserve longer than they had hoped for.

Odd.....I heard they had the need to hire indefinately and that training was planned for the entire year.

I'm not making this up, it is true. They are taking a break. I don't post internal company documents online, but I am sure someone else here who has read it can verify this for you.

I got your back. I read the same email this morning. Hiring is stopping for a little while. The people who were promised interviews in the near future will be the first to interview when things start up again. Thank God I'm off reserve next month.

Hey guys,

I interviewed on the 9th, and we were told that they were postponing the March 20th class until May, and only having one class in March until they see how many 146 guys decide to make the switch. I believe the sixth is what they told us for the march class. Anyway, if they cancelled both classes in March, do you think they will put us in a pool if we get hired? Just wondering, I guess I may be just a couple weeks too late. Thanks for any info.

cx747, keep your chin up. Yeah, I got the e-mail about the hiring. I have a feeling there will be a mass exodus of 146 guys come the middle of April when the 146's are officially gone. Not sure how that might effect hiring though. As far as the length of time to get off reserve, it will be at least a month in ORF, 2-3 in PHL, and about the same in DCA. I don't know where the guy got the info that he was gonna get a line right out of the chute. It is highly unlikely, but i guess anything is possible. Masedogg, i hear ya buddy, can't wait to actually get a line next month. Hows the crashpad? I here you had to ditch the last place you were living due to some ,uh, sexual harrassment. lol.

Man it's been fun there. Mrs. Robinson sure seems to love me. Likes to cook meals for me. Can't complain, except it's my good friend's mom, and she gets friendly when she's been drinking, which usually starts with some wine each afternoon around 3:30. I get into the crash pad tomorrow. Should be much nicer. Especially since it's less than 5 miles from the airport. Have they been using you much on reserve?

Hilarious man. Yeah, they used me last week. JR Man that led into my reserve sequence. Didn't mind the JR Man, I was bored to tears anyways and the captain was pretty cool. Other than that, I haven't been utilized. I was pretty much begging crew sched to put me on a trip right at the beginning of the month. I was so bored. But hey, we all get lines next month.

LOL. I have been on reserve since November 25th...and get a line in ORF March 1st like you. I'm pretty sure you were hired after me? Things could be worse - classes prior to mine sat reserve for 6+ months...

Reserve is pretty sweet for me though, I can't complain, I live here and pick up open time on my days off. Less work, and more pay. Can't beat that :).

Yeah you're right. I will only be on reserve for a total of 5 weeks. Really can't (and won't) complain at all. Just that my living situation made things uncomfortable. Much better now though. Crash pad is really nice. I'm already in a better mood.

it's true about the email. Feb 20th is the last class for a while. I'll be on RSV a while until attrition or hiring picks up. I could think of worse situations, so I won't complain about it.
