AWAC is far from liquidating! Heck... we just bought us a major airline! .... one that might not be around in a couple months.... but... hey....

Interview is straight forward. No tricks. They want to know what type of person you are. If they sense any sort of cockiness or attitute, don't expect to get hired. Training is usually about 2 months. Couple weeks of indoc, couple of systems, couple out in the box, 2 trips for IOE. All paid at guarentee, collecting per diem 24/7 because you officially have no base, and living in the company provided single occupancy hotel room. 1st year pay is around $23 an hour.

Good luck... don't know what the status of our hiring is. Attrition is forecast to pick up immensely because of our uncertain future. No one is leaving for other regionals. Everyone is leaving for places like UPS, Fedex, Air Tran, Southwest, and Jet Blue.

And don't give alot of thought to the doom and gloom of UAL and AWAC parting ways. The sky isn't falling!

The company said that there is a possible new hire class in May. Weird considering we are going from 84 aircraft to 70 aircraft. Rumors for crew bases are MKE, CLT, and DCA. There are also rumors floating around about a NWA deal, but I will believe it when I see it. I guess people might be jumping to conclusions because of the MKE base and NWA wanting to grow there. Take it for what it is worth. We will know more after the April 22nd court date with United. It is a great place to work. Hopefully we will get our old contract back and retro pay, then it will be a f*cking great place to work. Good luck if you get the interview.

I'm pretty sure there are a handful of ex-Wisconsin types in the current newhire class at SkyWest.

Don't forget, if we give up our current contract and go back to the previous contract good luck on gettting to work. The new contract contained a commuter clause. With the latest company news, we most likely will not have travel benefits with United. With mostly everyone being commuters, they may stick with the new contract with a commuter policy then getting some cash back and reverting. There are alot of west coast guys at our airline, they surlely won't be sticking around commuting to the east coast for too long. I truely believe that this is a blessing in disguise, I don't think that United is going to make it long term. I'm happy to start with a new major and I think this was a wise choice by management. I think our management and their crystal ball is telling us something.

Those would be very junior FO's looking for a quicker upgrade than the current projected 4-8 years at AWAC.

Looking at the most recent attrition list almost all of the guys and gals leaving are moderately senior captains. Only 2 on the list of 12 this month are fo's. One of the guys I know and he is leaving for skywest, he also lives in Salt lake. Would be kind of hard to comute to the east from there. Some more FO's may leave but if they do I believe it will be in error. The company is not going to fail. We have work for at least 10 years now with U (as long as they last that long) and prospects for growth in a crj900 fleet. Going to the bottom of a very large seniority list like skywest or mesa mat not be the smartest thing to do. At least here you can get a bit of QOL standard established and like posted earlier I am drooling over the possibility of getting our pay rates back.

My above post was too simplistic. With growth happening on the east coast those pilots that live in the west are looking for jobs more compatable with their home life. Hopefully that will be an upward and not a lateral or backward move for most.

Used to be pretty good at forecasting trends and patterns, right up to when UAL gave Wisco the boot. Man, it ends there! I've been racking my brain (lots of loose rattling up there) and there are at least four scenarios that could play out.
We all can agree the junior guys bailing is a given, and the senior guys that take off this early are risking the most. The USAir deal is, at worst, short term insurance with a slim chance of a long term outcome.
I witnessed the stitching torn from upholstered chairs after the three amigos get up because their cheeks are so tight. Very low risk here.
Down the road 12 months or less, a deal with Northwest would be my geuss. The corporate cultures are much more similar than Pinnacle or Mesaba. Also, Northwest is looking for a third party to play a bigger role in their regional ops. (no secret they are unhappy with Mesaba).
When this happens, the senior guys who left Wisco will kick themselves, because MKE will be the first base. They may even return and accept position at the bottom of the seniority list (this is happening now at F9). This will spell the end for Midwest Express and its' wholly owned Skyway and they'll be shut down within 6 months. Further expansion with Northwest will be towards the North (Canada) and West (lots of expansion west of the Mississippi). As UAL continues their cutbacks, NW/Wisco alliance will fill in the mountain service again like flood waters past a broken dam.
HIRING NOTE: Big pay-offs come from big risks. The applicants hired over the next year will be positioned for upgrades in less than a year from the inception of a NW alliance and high seniority positions 3-5 years from now. Given a choice and just starting out, I'd go with Wisco over any other regional just for the payoff gamble.
Gotta run now, will finish predictions later. CP

Crash, your post looked pretty accurate until that "no secret they are unhappy with Mesaba" statement. You need to look no further than who MAIR's board members are, they are the same members as NWAC. Nothing happens at MAIR (or PNCL for that matter) that is not planned and coordinated by NWA management. We are C scale NWA pilots and nothing will happen outside of MAIR or PNCl, because that does not make these board members $$$.

You know your company better than I, but that sounds an awful lot like
"we're Uniteds' favorite and they'll always give preference to us", a self-assurance once shared by another pilot group. Deja Vouz.

More coming....

One correction to an earlier post. We don't pay per-diem until you begin IOE. Other than than full guarantee through training.
