So whats new with AWAC? Did they find someone else to fly under or why are they hiring again?

We can't fill our new-hire classes. No one wants to come here!

My how the mighty have fallen.

Class of about 9 on may 9th. Was supposed to be like 20 people but couldn't finid enoug qualified applicants. I would guess that when future bases and transition plans are announced (hopfully next week) attrition form DEN and ORD and ATW will increase and hiring will have to continue. We are from what K.L. (upper mang guy) still bidding on crj 900 flying supposedly around 30 at first with options for more. If that comes through then I imagine we will be doing lots of hiring. So who knows

I just heard we lost 18 pilots this month (2 to retirement + 16 attrition), no furloughs planned with BAe 146 going away by Spring.

It's too bad that it's that way because AWAC is a relatively good place to work. There would be less attrition if AWAC had been able to keep a western base somewhere. With all the uncertainty at UAL and USAirways and a long estimated time to upgrade it's hard to sell a pilot on AWAC as a long term deal.

1000 tt and 250 me.......my how our mins have fallen. AWAC is still a good place to work as long as your an east coaster. Me, well i live in phx.

Looks like PIT, PHL and DCA for new bases. Technically still up in the air but evidently they are the "cities of focus".

Any guesses on what is going to go senior?

I've heard the exact same numbers from a very well placed individual. The next question is then J4J and how that will play into the staffing requirements.

No one knows yet whether the 1st batch of 90 seaters are exempt from J4J or not. I guess it depends on whether we stay below the 70 aircraft limit as specified in the USAirways/AWAC agreement. If we grow beyond that, then J4J is a certainty.

So it will be a PIT base flying CR2'?

Dunno. Getting Information has been very difficult from our guys. In part due to the fact they're still working on where AirWis fits into U.

We were told about "Focus Cities" earlier today. In the next breath, they said it would be next week (at the earliest I'm sure) when they told us where our bases would be.... so they seem to be making a distinction between the two sets of information.

Right now, ANY AirWis flying will be done in CRJ 200s. It's all we'll have.

On a better bit of news, it looks like UAL could die before too long! Go Mechanics and FAs!

Ok, can someone fill me in with one question please. What is J4J? I know I stand the risk of sounding stuipd, but hey, I won't know otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

It stand for "jets for jobs." It's when a regional airline is awarded a contract to fly aircraft for a mainline carrier in return for hiring a certain number of the mainline's furloughed pilots.

Hopefully, J4J won't apply here, or if it does, we may have more say in it than the WO at U. The difference being that the WO's are just that, wholly owned. AWAC, on the other hand, is NOT a WO, in fact we are technically an owner (at least when U exits BK).

With any luck, we will be able to grow without the J4J protocol being applied to us.

Now, if we can just get our old contract back with retro, that would be SWEET! (Looks like we might!).

90 seaters? What? We are not getting 90 seaters--its all just rumor. Our new "90 saeter" rumor carries as much wait as any other rumor. AWAC is always "looking" into new ways to grow our company. This is one conservative company. The 90 seat payscale might scare them off--who knows. They certainly won't be the launch customer for anything under developmeny now. I would love to see this company grow even a little, but I'm very skepticle. See for now, the on;y thing anyone can really say is that we'll flying our airplanes (CRJ200's -- why, because its the only kind we got, 146 will be dead by next spring.) in the USAir system network.

J4j

Just remember this, J4J is BIGTIME BS, screw growth, we'll be the next Skywest if we start doing J4J. Skywest is a great company, but I'm proud that we never went that route just for grwoth, i hope it doesn't happen now. On the flipside, J4J at Airways is kind of a joke. Airways already went through the entire furlough list for Midatlantic, and had to go to the Wholly owned to get pilots, so noone is really waiting on the couch for a call to fly an RJ at U.
