It seems to have been lost in the AWA/UAIR mega thread, so I thought I'd start a new one.

From the WSJ..........."If an agreement is reached, the initial plan would be to fly under the "US Airways" brand immediately but to keep the operations separate for a time, linking the network through code-sharing, while integration of fleet and personnel is phased in. "

So does this mean it would be USAIR doing the buying?

YIKES!

Neither company would be doing any buying. If this thing comes to pass the money will come from elsewhere.

IMHO if this montrosity comes to pass a brand new name should be used. And for gosh's sake a new, non-Wolfe paint job! Dark blue fuselages in the desert is beyond stupid, even though SW did it.

Seems like a name that conveys the scope of the airline would be in order.

Such is the reason why Allegheny Airlines changed its name to USAir.

It sounds less "regional" (not regional as in commuter, but regional as in section of the country).

Personally I think that the combined airline with strong east and west-coast hubs should keep the US Airways name, but I can certainly understand the desire to come up with something completely new.

Huh??

Hey meanstreak,

Did you read the article? Are you saying that it is false? It clearly says the new company will immediately start flying under the USAirways name.

I think the two companies should repaint the planes in the old PSA colors with the big smiling nose cones!!

Only if we bring back the old PSA flight attendant uniforms!

They probably have the same stews---now they are just 40 years older!

Im not a business major, but why combine the operations at all ever? Why not just merge the two holding companies and operate their perspective subsidiaries independently. It seems you could still get the benefits of the "synergies" the merger may create, get the money U needs, not completely alienate the employees of each carrier, and capitalize on brand/identity loyalty that the two airlines already have. Isnt this what some of the regionals that fly for more than one major have been doing for years? JMHO...

Best of luck to all those involved for the best possible outcome.

ps all the talk of either AWA sounding too regional; doesnt seem to have bothered SW too much over the years.

You do not....I repeat DO NOT want to see most of our F/As in those
old PSA uniforms. uh-uh,no way,no how. You'll be in therapy for years!
