1. On the front it says "Please print or write clearly". Is it OK to type the app? I think it looks much better typed.

I think typing would look better, just watch out for the typo's.

Just out of curiousity, how long from the time you submitted your resume did you receive your app.

It says to print or write clearly.... Write it! Lots of classes planned for this summer. Good Luck.

LearLove,

Did someone walk the resume in for you?

Just curious

Also in the job history section: should I list myself as Capt. when I'm downgraded at my current job? Or should I just put:

Dash 8 First Officer and Captain

What about on my ressume, I've been downgraded for awhile now, should I still list myself as a capt? Its not like it was my decision to downgrade. From guys I've spoken to about this the consensus seems to be to list as capt. I also think there was a post about this a year ago and the results were the same.

You should list your title with the highest position you've held at the company.... Captain in this case. You can elaborate in the interview if necessary.

I handwrote my app and my penmanship is lousy. All my classmates handwrote as well.

As for the captain vs fo question I agree with the "captain and fo" response. It's correct and they'll have no reason to ask for an explanation.

On another issue, a good buddy of mine blew his AWA interview last week and it's a real bummer. He inadvertantly didn't mention the gear-up landing he had with a CFI fifteen years ago. Realizing the ommission he brought it up immediately during the interview. He's convinced that it's the reason he wasn't hired. What a shame; he should've been hired. Don't make the same mistake.

Dude

LearLove,

Congrats on getting the App. I had a resume walked in about a month ago, but haven't got anything in the mail yet. These things must just take time.

Good luck if/when the interview comes. PHX is an awesome place to live if it comes to that.

Dude...

Shouldn't you be studying for your test !?!;)

The answer to your question lies right in the app. Follow the directions! I have perhaps the worst writing/printing skills of anyone I know, but I took a few painstaking hours to fill out the app, and it looks great. Good luck.

Make sure you xerox a copy, fill that out, then smooth copy. Especially the flight time grid. You'll be amazed how many mistakes you make trying to get the columns to add up.........maybe that's why they never called?

Well as for the typing thing its a moot point now anyway. I called all 3 "typing service" listings in SYR phone book.

The first one isn't in bizz anymore. (maybe Seagull was CEO of that company too)

The second turned out to be the number for the local Hart and Lung Association and the lady seemed annoyed that I asked for the typing service, they must get alot of typing calls (she also sounded out of breath).

The third service won't do it on a traditional typerwriter and said they would scan it into a program or something. I asked the lady if she knew anyone who does traditional typing and she said the lady that they used to refer thoes requests to died last year.

O WELL, so much for going the extra mile. I don't get it. We're all educated professionals with thousands of flying hours and deal with all kind of problems daily but a simple job application is like trying to cure cancer.

In the same boat as LearLove, although it's a little different in that I had applied a couple of years ago (got the app and sent it in - no references, but no call) and sent a resume in as an UPDATE in December, and for some reason they thought it was an initial app request and sent me an app last week?

Any AWA guys or gals have any idea what I should do, or whether the new process requires a new app and the $50 fee... again...?

Additionally, what's the average time on reserve for a new-hire? Average schedule / days off both on and off reserve? Time to upgrade?

Thanks in advance!

Try this!!

HI.

Did you try the local public library. Most still have typewriters!! I've used the typewriter at my local public library. I'm lucky enough that there are a couple in the area to choose from.

I would still suggest making a copy (or two) and completing it by-hand and then typing it -- which ever one looks the best -- go for it!

Good Luck

I would resend the application with the $50. Attach a cover letter explaining your previous application.

I walked a friends resume into HR yesterday and Tammy told me she has thousands of resumes to sort so it may have been lost in the shuffle.

Average time on reserve? Depends on the airplane. It used to be about a year on average but some guys on the 737 have been getting lines after six months or less. This will probably change though when the -200's leave in the fall. 757 has the longest reserve time.

Reserve min days off is 12 in a 30 day month and 13 in a 31 day month. Min guarantee is 77 hours. You get line holder average for your equipment until you finish IOE.

For the one about typing or writing. I would write the application by hand. Follow the instructions exactly as they say and you will be happy.:)

Thanks Cactus, both for the info and for the advice... 12-13 days off sounds nice after three years on reserve with 10 days off a month! :D

Gonna head over to Kinkos, make some copies, and get started, try to get it in the mail before I head back to work Saturday.

Good luck to all!

Remember to take the xerox copy with you cause you just may need it. My app was lost and i had to fill out the whole thing right there on the spot. I keep all of that stuff in a breif case and just so happens that it doubles as my interview case so I had the info on hand.

Good luck

WD.
