Anyone out there have any info/exp flying and owning an AVID FLYER? The one I may look at is an 85 flyer with a 503. The AF&E each have 150TT. The guy is asking 12,500.

I think it would be a good sport plane for me. I plan on making an enclosed trailer and just want it for treetop flyin on nice days. Any comments on how these preform compared to a J-3 or C-150.

Thanks

There is one for sale up in IL that is in Areotrader. Anyone know about this bird?

Any advice on what I should look for if I go to see it? Does anyone know an AVID "expert" or knowledgable persn out there to contact?

thanks again

For just a weekend sport flyer, you should spend a little more money and get something with a certificated engine. I know those Rotax engines are popular in the ultralight/sportplane industry, but if you talk to someone who flies behind one, chances are better than not that they have prior forced landing experience.
If you get one of those, at least fly to keep your engine-out options open (NO treetop flying!), and you might want to invest in a ballistic chute for it!

It would cost a lot more, but Avid makes a larger plane called the Magnum that has an O-320. I hear it's a capable hauler, but it might have more capability than you're looking for.

You won't touch a Cub for anywhere near $12,500, and the only C-150s at that price I would be afraid to go near.

If you are looking for fun flying I think you were on the right track with the Avid. Kitfox would be good too.

These airplanes will way outfly a c-150 anyday with performance more like a super cub.
