i really haven't heard any of the new-hires complaining about the selection process. as i have seen it- uncle brown has done a terrific job in selecting top notch pilots.

Really? How come you don't mention JetBlue's system? UPS basically incorporated an electronic selection system JetBlue has been using for years...So shouldn't they be the “winner” in your eyes ?

Personally I think it beats a "he/she was in my unit" system; at least this makes a "buddy system" more difficult... I'm not saying I like this selection process but I don’t think its any worst than what you see at the other carriers…

In a way I would like to see some form of a “silver bullet” program (didn’t Alaska used to have that?) but I guess that would make the “buddy system” more prevalent, so I’m not sure what an ideal selection process should look like…Of course, it’s way above my pay grade…;)

The frustrating part is to have "Multiple Internal LOR's" and have your stuff in there for over 3-4 years and STILL not get a call! Frustrating to say the least!

Received the letter. It took two weeks. I knew when I left the interview that I didn't click with Mr. Thompson. Good luck to all.

No news is NOT good news ... just got the letter ... over a month after the interview! There goes the two week rejection letter I had heard about! Now where did I put that FedEx application ...

Yes it is frustrating but unfortunately that's just how it is. It took me 8 years to finally get the call and I too had many recommendations. I think the numerous job fairs I went to and especially the WAI conference that one of my sponsors attended with me finally did it for me. For those of you who got the “thanks but no thanks letter” – I’m really sorry to hear that - I hope you’ll keep trying as there have been numerous pilots hired on their second attempt…Good luck to you all!
