Rumor has it, they like military pilots. They have had a lot of success with them. And some of those pilots had fewer hrs than the mins call for. Depends more on the type equipment and the missions flown.

Does Avantair require that you live at your crew base ? do you have jumpseat privileges ? what is the schedule like at avantair ?

Thank`s !

Anybody know if Avantair is solid on their 2500TT, or if they allow military pilots to use the 1.2 or 1.3 conversion factor to make up for our unlogged taxi time?

The rumors are true that we do like ex-military fliers, they are just easier to train and have a great deal of knowledge to make up for their lack of flight time mins. Im sure that we do allow the 1.2 or 1.3 conversion factor to make up for unlogged taxi time. The truth is you just cant beat the training that uncle sam has invested into these pilots. Most have completed training with the recommendation for upgrade as soon as possible.

I see the Avantair P180s all the time in SDL and PHX. I have spoken with a number of the crews and they seem happy for the most part. Sure, they mention growing pains and certain areas that can be improved, but we have to remember the organization is still relatively young - it will (and has to) get better or owners will leave... That's a great incentive to improve things.

I got a good look at the cabin of the P180 a few weeks back - wow, much nicer and wider than my Lear's cabin. The cockpit was pretty modern (of course, my Lear could not be older and more archaic) and I hear newer versions with ProLine 21 equipment are coming. Later, I followed that aircraft out of SDL and I was pretty impressed with its performance.

Personally, I think Avantair has found a strong niche (price point works for people who can't afford Citation Xs or Hawker 800XPs) with the right type of aircraft. I hear Avantair has a number of great domiciles to choose from too including the PHX area - if I didn't enjoy my current job I would consider it myself!

I agree that the Piaggio is a very nice looking airplane. Obviously, it is not as fast as a jet, but I passed one over the Midwest last week and it was considerably higher than my ERJ. I got a good look at it - the guys sounded happy.

not nearly as fast as an ERJ but at FK280 and ISA, it runs 395 kts 0.7 mach and will pass some smaller jets, like the small citations. at a lower fuel burn than the jets too.

Does Avantair require that you live at your crew base ? - 2 hours from gateway

do you have jumpseat privileges ? - no written agreement, i have heard there are some carriers that will allow you to fly with a 135 badge.

what is the schedule like at avantair ? - currently hiring pilots to get to a 7 & 7 sometime in the fall. right now it is 7.5 on 9 days available and 5 hard days off each week.

airlinepilotcentral.com has a page with some details on it.

I live within 2hrs of CVG, Does Avantair let you choose your gateway ? Thank`s for the info !

as long is it is one of the open gateways, and Florida, ATL and RNO are the only ones closed at this time according to my sources.

Is an ATP a must to interview even if you have more than enough for the other requirements?

As far as I know, they want the ATP.....they pretty much want captain ready individuals. But hey, call them and ask
