Any pilots for Avantair tell me how the day to day ops work? I did a search of course but not much on the line flying. I'm looking for such things as what time do you get back to base day 7, Do you get backed up if you turn down a trip, or delay it, do you get many 2am phone calls, etc?

Things are pretty good here at Avantair. We have just moved to a 8 on 6 off schedule and have done a bunch of hiring which should alleviate the pilot shortage. I know that business is good and Jets are in the future. Pay is low and quality life is getting better but at a slow pace.

I parked next to one your Avantis a few weeks ago - nice looking aircraft! Do you guys mainly fly regionally or do you cross the country on a typical tour? How varied are your destinations and how many sectors do you tend to "average" on a given day?

Where are your recent newhires coming from - from flight instructor/charter sorts of positions or are you getting regional airline pilots (e.g., Flyi)?

The schedule will be an 8 on 7 off to better allow for overlap. On a typical tour there is no telling where you will end up. The flying is getting more regional as we get additional airplanes but there are always trips across country per customer needs. The company does take care of crew meals when you work over the meal period and will but positive space tickets to and from the airplane. Our Chief Pilot just left (a great guy) so it will be interesting to see how things go but as far as I know nothing but growth ahead.

If your day ends at an airport within a hundred or so miles of your base do they let you fly back to your base instead of going to a hotel? How often do you wind up back at your base during the 8 day tour?

Thanks

There is just no way to tell how many times you will end up back at the base as many as 4 nights or as little as none. If you do end up within about 100 miles they will definitely bring the airplane back to the base on most occasions. Most of the hiring is coming from 135 cargo companies. The CP is not thrilled about hiring airline guys although we do have a few.

What are average monthly hours accumulated?

Question about the Avanti

Questions for your Ferrari fliers:

Where does all the baggage go?

How do y'all like flyin outta Caldeywell?

Do y'all serve lasagna on yer flights?

Thats all the ?''s I can think of right now. Most important question was the one about the baggage. Couldn't help my self.

Tx.

One of the Avantair owners and his wife regularly read this board. They are pretty good at finding out who's posting (although in my case it was obvious and no I did not get fired for posting here).

Enough said.

BTW - don't PM me with Avaintair questions now that is obvious I used to work there. I won't answer them for a couple of reasons. Also it's been 9 months since I left and things change.
